    • A compressor includes a cylinder block and a housing connected to the ends of the cylinder block. A suction chamber and a discharge chamber are defined in the housing, respectively, and the chambers are divided by a bulkhead, or wall. A valve plate, which has a discharge port for connecting the cylinder bores with the discharge chamber, is positioned between the cylinder block and the housing. A discharge valve is provided for selectively opening and closing the discharge port. A gasket is positioned between the housing and the valve plate, and the gasket is held to the bulkhead. The gasket has a bulkhead seal portion, which is between the bulkhead and the valve plate for sealing between the discharge chamber and the suction chamber, and a protruding portion, which protrudes radially beyond the bulkhead, extending along and contacting the valve plate.

    • In the present compressor, a retainer is prevented from being deformed without impairing the sealing performance of a metal gasket provided between a covering member for closing a compression chamber of a cylinder block assembly and a discharge valve forming plate. A discharge valve forming plate is provided between a valve plate having at least one discharge port through which a fluid compressed in a compression chamber of a cylinder block assembly is discharged into a discharge chamber of a housing and the cylinder block assembly. A retainer for restricting the magnitude of opening of a discharge valve is integrally formed in a metal gasket which is provided between the discharge valve forming plate and the housing. The housing is provided with a restricting section at a position corresponding to a proximal portion of a rising portion of the retainer for restricting the proximal portion of the top surface of a rising portion.

    • A gasket having a surface thereof coated with an elastic membrane and adapted to be interposed, together with a valve plate and a discharge valve member, between a cylinder block and a housing of a refrigerant compressor under compression. The gasket includes an outer sealing portion for sealing an outer circumference of the compressor against an atmospheric environment therearound, and an inner sealing portion, connected to the outer sealing portion, for sealing between a high pressure region and a low pressure region within the compressor. Each of the outer and inner sealing portions includes in its entirety a deformable ridge which is shaped as a convexly curved projection with an apex line continuously extending along a length of the each outer and inner sealing portion. When the gasket is located in a proper position in the compressor, the apex lines of the ridges of the respective sealing portions are abutted to the front or rear housing of the compressor.

    • A refrigerant compressor, typically a swash plate type refrigerant compressor for compressing refrigerant gas containing therein lubricating oil, which has axially combined cylinder blocks having a plurality of cylinder bores in which a plurality of pistons reciprocate to implement suction and compression of refrigerant gas as well as discharge of the compressed refrigerant gas. The cylinder blocks further have a swash plate chamber for a swash plate supported by a sliding type thrust bearings, receiving the refrigerant gas returning from an exterior of the compressor, and an axially extending central through-bore for a drive shaft supported by radial bearings. The compressor has a lubricating oil system which includes a fluid passageway for supplying a part of the refrigerant gas containing the lubricating oil from refrigerant gas inlet passageways in the cylinder blocks into the central bore to lubricate the sliding type thrust bearings and the radial bearings. Additional gas passageways may be provided in the valve plate for providing communication between some cylinder bores and the central bore in synchronism with opening of suction valves of some cylinder bores so that introduction of the part of the refrigerant gas into the central bore from the swash plate is promoted.

    • An improvement of a piston type compressor is disclosed. The compressor has a cylinder block that includes a plurality of cylinder bores and a plurality of suction passages. Each of the suction passages extends through the cylinder block to connect a crank chamber with a suction chamber. The suction chamber is connected with the cylinder bores via a plurality of suction ports located in association with the cylinder bores. Each cylinder bore accommodating a piston that moves therein to circulate gas between the compressor and an external gas circuit. The gas introduced into the crank chamber from the external gas circuit is supplied to the suction chamber through each suction passage and is supplied from the suction chamber to each cylinder bore through an associated suction port. The suction passages are smaller in number than the cylinder bores. The suction ports are disposed in the vicinity of an opening of the suction passages.
