    • The average value of each of yellow, magenta and cyan color image data of a color-to-be-converted which data are obtained at the time of pre-scanning of a copying machine and stored in memories, respectively, is calculated, and then, predetermined set values are respectively added to and subtracted from the calculated average values of yellow, magenta and cyan to obtain upper and lower limit values of the conversion range. When the lower limit value obtained by subtraction is below a predetermined lower limit restriction value, the lower limit restriction value is set as the lower limit value of the conversion range. With this feature, when an extremely pale color is specified as a color-to-be-converted in a region other than a background portion of a color original where no letters, etc. are printed, the color of the background portion is not converted together with the specified color.

Test image data are corrected according to an initial gradation correction curve, and a test image is formed according to the image data thus corrected. The test image is read by a scanner to obtain read data. Based on the read data thus obtained, test image data are newly formed. Based on the newly formed test image data, a test image is again formed. The second-time test image thus formed is read by the scanner to obtain read data. Based on the read data obtained by reading the second-time test image, the initial gradation correction curve and a predetermined reference output curve, candidate point data are obtained. Based on the candidate point data, a gradation correction curve is formed and set.

    • An image forming apparatus has a printing unit for executing a single-sided print job and a double-sided print job. A storage unit stores print target data as backing sheet image data when a single-sided print job is executed. An image reading unit reads images on both sides of a document that is subjected to image processing. A backing sheet judgment unit judges whether there is an image that matches a backing sheet image among the images on both sides of the document by comparing the document image data read by the image reading unit with the backing sheet image data stored in the storage unit. An exclusion processing unit performs processing to exclude from the image processing targets an image judged by the backing sheet judgment unit to match the backing sheet image among the images on both sides of the document read by the image reading unit.
