    • The invention relates to the provision of complementary access point service for users of a cellular mobile communication network (PLMN). In order to allow a mobile user to find an available complementary access point (AP), such as a WLAN access point, access point information is maintained of such cells (C1, C2, C3) and their signal attributes that would be measured by the user terminal (MS), if it were in the coverage area of a certain complementary access point (AP) or close to it. As the user terminal (MS) receives signals in the mobile network (PLMN) it compares the signals with the maintained access point information. If the received signals correspond to the maintained information, it can be concluded that a complementary access point (AP) is available at that area and the user terminal (MS) may initiate the search for the complementary access point (AP).

    • When a mobile station (10) is in a DCCH camping state it monitors its assigned page frame. After making RSSI and possibly also Bit Error Rate/Word Error Rate (BER/WER) measurements the mobile station monitors the rate of change of the RSSI. If the rate of change is small and remains so, the mobile station is assumed to be in a stationary state. After determining that it is stationary, the mobile station may give an audible alert and/or display a message to request the user to confirm that the mobile station is (and will remain) stationary. When in the stationary state the mobile station inhibits making neighbor channel measurements for DCCH reselection. The mobile station continues to monitor its assigned page frame within an assigned digital control channel and to measure its own channel RSSI and possibly also the BER/WER. If these values subsequently indicate that the mobile station is no longer stationary, the mobile station immediately resumes all neighbor channel measurements.

    • This invention addresses the problem of latency of response regarding information relying on an IMEISV from a CN. This is possible by defining the early RRC connection bits' indication to determine the supported signalling schemes and providing the IMEISV information from the terminal to the network. After this point the CN is able providing this mapping information to the radio access network before actual radio links are utilized. The idea here is for early RRC message information to be used for indicating what version of bitmap correction terminal capabilities refers to and what procedures can be utilized while waiting for this bit map information from the CN. Using this approach the length of the early RRC message can be kept short, the content of corrections can be well defined saving signalling bits, and the concern of a fast available indication on the connection set-up phase can still be addressed.
