摘要： Methods of treating a high salinity liquid, such as seawater, containing boron are provided, including adjusting the pH of the liquid to about 8 to about 9.5, optionally adding a scale inhibitor to the liquid, passing the liquid through a reverse osmosis device, and recovering a permeate having a boron concentration less than about 2ppm. One embodiment includes removing colloidal matter from the liquid using a membrane filtration system, such as ultrafiltration or microfiltration, prior to passing the liquid through the reverse osmosis device, and preferably prior to adjusting the pH of the liquid.

摘要： An anti-telescoping device (ATD) is provided for installing a spiral wound filtration element in a tubular pressure vessel, the ATD being a generally wagon wheel-shaped disc having an outer peripheral rim, a central hub, a plurality of annularly spaced ribs connecting the peripheral rim with the central hub, and engagement catches located at transitions of the ribs with the peripheral rim for receiving projections from a handle. The handle for holding, installing and/or extracting a spiral wound filtration element with ATD has a plurality of annularly spaced legs extending radially outward and axially from a central holding portion, the legs having engagement feet at distal ends of the legs and being adapted to lock into the engagement catches in the ATD on at least one end of the filtration element. The ATD has other novel features which facilitate the insertion of the filtration element into, the operation in, and the removal from the tubular vessel.

摘要： A modular membrane filtration device is provided with replaceable membrane elements. The device is designed for ease of cleaning or replacing the membrane elements during filtration of a feed liquid to remove suspended solids. The cleaning may be effected by continuous aeration or by application of air as intermittent pressurized pulses. The device preferably has two headers, at least one of which is a permeate collection header having receptacles for a plurality of membrane elements, each of which is a potted hollow fiber membrane bundle. The potted hollow fiber membrane bundles are distinct entities which may be inserted into the receptacles, preferably in rows of circular slots, on the permeate collection header(s), and may be easily removed for maintenance, such as for replacement of the hollow fiber membrane elements.

摘要： A method for concentration of oligonucleotides from a solution comprising negatively charged oligonucleotides is provided. The method includes the steps of: circulating the solution through an ultrafiltration or nanofiltration unit having a membrane, filtering the solution through the membrane to remove salts from the solution and obtain a retentate solution including the oligonucleotides and a permeate solution including the removed salts, diafiltering the retentate solution with a diafiltration buffer to produce a concentrated oligonucleotide solution, and collecting the concentrated oligonucleotide solution. The membrane has a nominal molecular weight cutoff in the range of from about 700 to about 5000 daltons, a negatively charged surface with a zeta potential of -20 mV or lower, and a water flux in the range of 800 to 1500 ml/min/m2.

摘要： There are provided methods for improving performance of hollow fiber filtration membranes (12). Methods comprise a unique backwashing technique wherein the hollow fiber membranes (12) are pressurized with a gas on a feed side of the membranes (12) at specified times during the backwash, accomplished by introducing a gas through filtrate port (11), top feed port (9) or bottom feed port (10). Periodic use of backwashing effectively removes fouling components from the hollow fiber membranes (12), providing stable permeability and low trans-membrane pressures, which results in an efficient and economic filtration process. In addition, there are provided methods for cleaning hollow fiber membranes (12) and increasing filtrate flow rate through membranes (12).
