    • A system includes a computing cloud (108) having at least one data storage unit (112) and at least one processing unit (110). The computing cloud is configured to provide at least one service. The system also includes a client (102-106) configured to communicate with the computing cloud and to selectively offload data to the computing cloud based upon one or more specified criteria. The client is also configured to offload processes to the computing cloud based upon the one or more specified criteria and to use the at least one service of the computing cloud. At least one of the specified criteria may be based upon a determination of whether the data is required for at least one real time process and/or a determination of whether each process is required for at least one real time process. The system may be used in a data storage and retention application or in an industrial automation application.

    • A system includes a computing cloud (108) having at least one data storage unit (112) and at least one processing unit (110). The computing cloud is configured to receive information associated with at least one process collected by an industrial tool, archive the process-related information, analyze the process-related information, and instruct a client device (102-106) on a type of data to be cached by the client device. The industrial tool could include a sensor configured to collect data associated with industrial equipment. Also, the client device may be associated with a local environment (200), the sensor may be configured to capture sensor readings at a specified interval, and the local environment may be configured to use a subset of the sensor readings. The client device can be configured to provide all of the sensor readings to the computing cloud.

    • A wireless marshalling panel includes a field device protocol communication link. The wireless marshalling panel is capable of receiving a message from a wireless device and transmitting a corresponding message to a process controller via the communication link. The panel is also capable of receiving a message from the process controller via the communication link and transmitting a corresponding message to the wireless device. The messages transmitted and received via the communication link may be an analog current signal or a frequency shift keying signal. The wireless marshalling panel may include a second field device protocol communication link and also be capable of receiving a message via the second communication link and transmitting a corresponding message to a second wireless device. The wireless marshalling panel may also be capable of receiving a message from the second wireless device and transmitting a corresponding message via the second communication link.
