摘要： It is disclosed that a longitudinal magnetic recording medium and apparatus has recording sections having longitudinal magnetic films (3) magnetically isolated in a recording direction. The magnetically isolated recording sections can record a single bit each so that the longitudinal magnetic recording medium can remove the irregular domain boundary of its own caused on boundaries of magnetization reversals in the recording direction. This can improve the signal-to-media noise ratio to a great extent in writing and reading.

摘要： The time interval/amplitude level difference between sequential peaks in waveforms of first reproducing signals from a recording medium is detected and stored in a storage. The time interval/amplitude level difference between peaks in a waveform of a second reproducing signal from the recording medium is detected and compared with the time interval/amplitude level difference stored in the storage to thereby perform peak detection in the waveforms thereof. An original bit train of the first reproducing signal corresponding to a maximum-likelihood waveform selected among the waveforms of the first reproducing signals is given as a standardized signal. Data are provided to represent the time interval/amplitude level difference between the sequential peaks in the waveforms of the reproducing signals in a range of electromagnetic signal interference on the recording medium.

Under this state, when information recording is instructed by user data and a device control signal 33, a signal to be recorded is assigned to an address on the drive 30 by the circuit 60. At this time, upon coincidence of this assigned address with the address of the defective sector read out of the memory 9, recording is controlled by the circuit 6 to exclude this address on the drive 30. The same processing is also applied to the case of reproducing.

On the other hand, when the outer peripheral head 53 is selected, the circuit 15 is connected to the terminal (a) side, signal waveform read out from the outer peripheral head 53 is selected, the changeover switch circuits 11-14 are connected to the terminal (b) side, and the delay line 22 of delay time tau2 and the attenuator 32 of attenuation factor k2 are selected.
