    • The alternator for use in automobiles includes two cooling fans (20, 21), rear and front, rotatable with the rotor shaft (1) disposed on opposed sides of the rotor (2), which cooling fans are received in front and rear brackets (5, 6) respectively. The brackets (5, 6) have inlet ports (9,16,17,18) and outlet ports (10, 19) through which drafts of cooling air are to be drawn in and out of the inner cavity of the alternator through rotation of the fans (20, 21), attaining cooling of necessary parts e.g. a stator winding (8), rotor exciting winding (3), rectifier diode (15) etc. It is uniquely designed that the one fan (21) on the front side has a suction capacity greater than that of the other fan (20) on the rear side, causing a negative pressure differential between the two suction sections of cooling fans. This results in an additional axial flow of cooling air directed from the rear to the front which contributes to improvement of cooling efficiency for the rectifier diode and rotor exciting winding. Thus the alternator can advantageously be made in compact size yet of a higher output.

    • PURPOSE:To cool the parts of a stator winding, an exciting winding of a rotor, a rectifying diode, etc., by setting up the negative pressure at the suction portion of a fan on the bracket side to be larger than a fan on the bracket side having a diode. CONSTITUTION:With the rotation of a rotor 2 by rotating an engine, centrifugal fans 20 and 21 rotate. The external cooling wind is sucked from suction holes 16-18 on the side of a rear bracket 6 and from a suction hole 9 on the side of a front bracket 5 and passes through each bracket 5 and 6 and is discharged from discharge holes 10 and 19. The capacity of the centrifugal fan 21 on the side of the front bracket 5 is designed so larger than that of the centrifugal fan 20 on the side of the rear bracket 6 that the negative pressure at the suction portion of the centrifugal fan 21 on the side of the front bracket 5 becomes larger than that of the centrifugal fan 20 on the side of the rear bracket 6, causing axial flow from the side of the rear bracket 6 to the side of the front bracket 5.
