    • PURPOSE:To properly position a head even if servo data are destructed, by providing a means which switches a head to another head whose servo data are not destructed when the servo data of the first mentioned head are destructed. CONSTITUTION:Servo data for positioning the center of data tracks are previously stored in the main body of a magnetic disk 1 and, at the same time, servo data of a position which becomes a reference position are previously used for positioning. It is made possible to use the servo data of another position as a reference when the servo data of the position which becomes the reference position are destructed. In other words, servo data are fetched by means of an MPU 11 through an amplifier 7A A/D converter 13 and whether they are destructed or not is discriminated. When the servo data are destructed, a new servo head is designated and this designation is sent to a switching circuit 14 so as to make switching of head amplifier 6. Therefore, positioning of a head 2 can be controlled even if part of servo data disappears.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten a seek time and to improve positioning accuracy by providing data buffers storing position correcting amounts and outputting a seek complete signal after the amount is confirmed. CONSTITUTION:A disk 2 is divided into plural blocks through the inner-most cylinder to the outer-most cylinder. Each block is provided with the position correction data buffers 5 and 6 storing the correcting amounts by which the position of a head 1 is corrected. The buffer 5 stores data estimated according to a change in its contents, while the buffer 6 stores data updated at every time the position is corrected in the block concerned. At the time of seek, the head is seeked in the position with a little off-track amount from a specified cylinder with the aid of the buffer 5. Upon the completion of seek, the position of the head is corrected based on the difference between the contents of the buffers 5 and 6 in the block concerned, and the seek complete signal is outputted. Thus the seek time is shortened, thereby improving the positioning accuracy.

    • PURPOSE:To protect recorded data from being erased by a method wherein an erasing window is provided in the surface facing the direction to which the terminals of a main body are extended and luminous power of ultraviolet rays applied to the window is reduced unless the posture of the main body is upside-down. CONSTITUTION:An EP-ROM is constituted by a main body 1, an erasing window 2 provided in it and terminals 3 attached to the main body 1. The erasing window 2 is positioned on the bottom side of the main body 1 at the center of the surface 1' facing the direction to which the tips of the terminals 3 are extended. A light shielding label is stuck on the erasing window 2 of such EP-ROM. Even if the label comes off, as the erasing window 2 is provided on the bottom side of the main body 1, luminous power of ultraviolet rays applied to the window 2 can be significantly reduced compared to the conventional structure in which the erasing window 2 is provided on the top side of the main body 1 as far as the top-and-bottom posture of the main body 1 is kept as it is.
