    • If a failure occurs in physical resources constituting a virtual volume, a management server device is notified of information required by a user. A computer system includes a server device for managing a plurality of virtual volumes, a storage apparatus having a storage unit equipped with a plurality of storage devices, and a controller for controlling data input to, or output from, the storage unit, a management server device which is an access target of a user terminal, and an event management device for managing an event(s) generated by the server device or the storage apparatus, wherein when the event management device receives the event, it judges the content of the event and identifies a virtual volume to be affected by the event; and if a service level that should be satisfied by the identified virtual volume is defined for the identified virtual volume, the event management device identifies, based on the content of the received event, whether an incident in violation of the service level has occurred or not, and then notifies the management server device of the identified content as an event based on an event filter.

    • To improve performance of a de-duplication process carried out by a storage system. When receiving a write request from a client, the storage system carries out a first de-duplication process, and thereafter carries out a second de-duplication process at an appropriate time. In the first de-duplication process, a determination is made as to whether a write target data item overlaps with any of stored data items of a part of a stored data item group, which is a user data item group stored in a storage device, and the write target data item is prevented from being stored in the storage device, when a result of the determination is positive. In the second de-duplication process, a determination is made as to whether a target stored data item, which is not finished with an evaluation of whether or not it overlaps with the stored data item in the first de-duplication process, overlaps with another stored data item, and the target stored data item or the same data item overlapping with the target stored data item is deleted from the storage device, when a result of the determination is positive.

    • The present invention enables creation of a clone file of a parent file stored in a different volume or a different storage system, and enables migration of a parent file and a clone file among volumes and storage systems. A file storage performs control to create a virtual parent file having an identifier capable of uniquely identifying a parent file among storage systems and volumes, and to acquire block layout information of the parent file using said identifier. The file storage creates a virtual parent file in the volume in which the clone file is created, and sets the file as a virtual parent file of the clone file so as to enable creation of a clone file of a parent file that exists in a different volume or a different storage system. Moreover, by combining creating the virtual parent file and switching the identifier of the parent file which is pointed by the virtual parent file, migration of clone files and parent files astride storage systems and volumes is enabled.
