    • This disclosure relates to a modified transfer-roll system (10) and method for electrophotographic printing or the like. A photoconductor, e.g., a photoconductive roller (12) or belt (60), is provided for collecting a first photostatic charge (19) in a selected form (14) corresponding to an image (15) to be printed, and for retaining toner (25) in the form (14) of the image (15) on a first surface (2) of printing media (1). Using a first selected voltage (18) from a first power source (17), a photostatic charging device (20), such as a charge roller and/or corona, is used to apply the first photostatic charge (19) to the photoconductor. A laser (23) write device activates selected portions (22) of the charge (19) applied to the photoconductor, such portions being in the form (14) of the image (15). A development roller then transfers toner (25) to the photoconductor, the toner (25) photoscally adhering to the photoconductor in the form (14) of the image (15). A transfer roller (26), in contact with the photoconductor at a selected transfer point (27), transfers the toner (25) image (15) from the photoconductor to the first surface (2) of the printing media (1). At least one end of the transfer roller (26) is sized and configured for accommodating overhanging edges (31) of printing media (1) as a setback (33) from the paper edges and for clearance from toner (25) on the photoconductor. A second power source (44) applies a second selected voltage (45) to the transfer roller (26), thereby attracting toner (25) thereto, so as to effect transfer of the toner (25) image (15) from the photoconductor to the printing media (1) first surface (2). Alternatively, a second surface (4) of the printing media (1) has a second photostatic charge (47) to attract the toner (25) retained by the photoconductor for transfer of the toner (25) image (15).
