摘要： A method of laying out a plurality of content-items on an electronically stored document, in particular a customized printed document e.g. a brochure or catalogue, or alternatively an email, Web page etc. The content-items may be photographs, drawings, charts, graphs, or passages of text. Firstly, fixed content-items (e.g. company logo, agency/agent contact details), which need to be placed at predetermined locations within the document, are positioned in the document area. One or more lines are then generated within the remaining area, to generate a plurality of cells into each of which one or more content-items may be placed, or they may be combined such that a plurality of cells provide a single container for placing one or more content-items. A set of sub-areas (cells or containers) are thus created, and it is assessed (subject to various considerations) whether the set is a suitable solution to laying out the remaining content-items on the document. Different sets of sub-areas are considered until a suitable layout has been achieved.
