Act, 1907], Mountings.-In guns arranged to be loaded in the recoil position, and fired during the run-out, the trunnions are situated near the position occupied by the breech end of the gun just before run-out takes place. Fig. 2 shows the gun in its extreme run-out position. The cradle consists of a part E which forms the recoil cylinder, and is above the gun, a part E which carries the trunnions e and is below the gun, and a part e which joins the parts E , E and envelopes the gun F F'. The gun is provided with guide-pieces f , f , which during recoil' engage with slides e e5 on the upper and lower portions of the cradle respectively. The mounting is shown supported on an automobile carriage, but it may be mounted upon an ordinary field carriage.
