摘要： The invention relates to an article for oxygen absorption that is a container containing a water-soluble on source, a water activated oxygen scavenger, and a rupturable canister of hydrated polymer. The hydrated polymer comprises a superabsorbent polymer. The water-soluble on source comprises a salt. The invention in another embodiment relates to a method for providing timed oxygen absorption using the article as above with rupturing of the canister to release the water carrying superabsorbent such that it will contact the oxygen scavenger and on source thereby leading to activating the oxygen scavenger.

摘要： A well dispersed oxygen scavenging particulate compounded in a polymer matrix. The oxygen scavenging formulation consists of iron powder with a mean particle sizes within 1-25 um and pre-coated with at least one or more activating and acidifying powdered compounds, usually in the form of solid organic and inorganic salts of alkaline and alkaline earth metals such as sodium chloride and sodium bisulfate. The pre-coated iron particulate is dispersed into a polymer resin by using a conventional melt processing method such as twin-screw extrusion. The oxygen scavenging compound is mixed with polymer pellets in the solid state prior to melting. The polymer resin pellets and the coated iron powder are preferably treated with a surfactant in the dry state to help dispersing the iron/salt powder with the resin pellets. The melt extruded compounds are pelletized and kept in the dry state to prevent premature activation.

C. but no greater than 290.degree. C. while applying a tension thereto of at least 3.5 grams per denier, which is carried out at a line speed of at least 100 m/minute; and there is no prior or subsequent heating of the fiber to any temperature greater than 300.degree. C. It has been discovered that placing tension on the filament while it is dried increases its tensile modulus without a significant decrease in its tensile strength.
