    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently fix carbon dioxide in a coal seam by suppressing the swelling of the coal seam in its critical places caused by pressurized carbon dioxide injected thereinto to stably maintain the coal seam in a state of high penetrability by carbon dioxide, or by intermittently improving the injection of pressurized carbon dioxide thereinto.
      SOLUTION: The method for fixing carbon dioxide in a coal seam whereby pressurized carbon dioxide is injected into a hole well communicating with an underground coal seam to cause injected carbon dioxide to penetrate into the coal seam so that injected carbon dioxide is adsorbed by the coal seam, comprises injecting pressurized highly penetrative gas in place of carbon dioxide comprising a substance having higher penetration to coal such as nitrogen than that of carbon dioxide into the coal seam having swollen due to the injection of carbon dioxide, and subsequently injecting pressurized carbon dioxide again into the coal seam with its permeability to carbon dioxide having been improved by the injection of the highly penetrable gas. Thus the swelling of coal is prevented or suppressed by the highly penetrable gas and gas flow paths therein constricted by the swelling of coal are enlarged, and thereby carbon dioxide can be efficiently injected and caused to penetrate into the coal seam at a lower pressure, and the amount of carbon dioxide fixed therein and the recovery of hydrocarbon gas released by the injection of carbon dioxide are increased.
