    • The present invention discloses a method for playing an advertisement, a terminal, and a media controller. The method includes: receiving a program on-demand request, and obtaining program identifier information according to the program on-demand request; obtaining advertisement metadata and advertisement play time that correspond to the program identifier information, where the advertisement metadata includes an advertisement identifier of a target advertisement, and the advertisement play time includes first advertisement play time; receiving a first selection result sent by a user, and obtaining, according to the first selection result and the advertisement metadata, a first advertisement identifier of an advertisement that needs to be played for the user; and playing the advertisement corresponding to the first advertisement identifier when the first advertisement play time arrives. Embodiments of the present invention may provide personalized advertisements for users and make the advertisements better targeted and more effective.

    • Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method, an apparatus, and a system for placing an advertisement. The method includes: after receiving an advertisement placement request, selecting, by an advertisement client or an application server according to the advertisement placement request, advertisement information to be placed; judging validity of the advertisement information according to advertisement metadata that is generated by an advertisement server and associated with the selected advertisement information; and judging, according to the validity of the advertisement information, whether to place the advertisement information. In the embodiments of the present invention, capping of the total exposure frequency on a terminal side and a network side can be implemented in an accurate and controllable manner, so that an advertisement platform can avoid an invalid advertisement placement, a cost of an advertiser is reduced, and a return on an investment in the advertisement is improved.

    • An authentication method is disclosed herein. The method includes: by a server, using a Trigger message nonce to generate a Trigger message, and sending the generated Trigger message to a client so that the client can extract the Trigger message nonce; after determining that the Trigger message nonce is valid, using the Trigger message nonce to generate a digest, and authenticating the Trigger message generated by using the Trigger message nonce; after the authentication succeeds, sending a session request to the server indicated by the Trigger message, where the session request carries a session ID. The corresponding system, server and client are disclosed herein. The present invention makes the authentication process more secure through the client and the server based on the DS or DM protocol.
