摘要： Consistent user experience of playlist capabilities, despite differences in available resources and on-line connectivity, is provided. Data embedded in a playback device compensates for lack of connectivity. For compactness, embedded data can be targeted to geographic region(s) by selecting metadata for recordings containing audio using statistics on playback of the recordings in many geographic regions. The statistics and corresponding metadata are segregated by the geographic regions. Then a portion of the corresponding metadata is selected for at least one of the geographic regions based on the statistics. By using statistics that indicate popularity of recordings within geographic regions based on the frequency of playback or requests for information about a recording when it is played, the portion of the corresponding metadata that is selected can be tailored for individual geographic regions. To ensure that subregions and genres are not totally excluded, the portion selected may not be solely based on popularity.

摘要： It has been discovered that a dynamic mixed media package with a mechanism for dynamic modification/update provides a media experience to users that exceeds the experience offered by individual media files. A dynamic mixed media package accommodates various types of media and allows for additional media and modifications of existing media. Additional media includes media generated by consumers, such as media derived from a seed media. A seed media is marked and assembled with supplemental media into a package. The seed media is marked to allow performance of various operations, such as identification of the seed media during the lifetime of the package and attribution when the seed media is incorporated into consumer generated derivative media.

Any of a plurality of techniques may be used to identify the audio, alone or in combination with other identification techniques, including length of song, fingerprint recognition of digital or analog audio, scheduled programming, or metadata transmitted in the same or an adjacent channel or frequency. The criteria used to determine whether to save a recording may be based on attributes included in the identification database, such as artist, genre, popularity, station programming, year, signal quality, etc. The audio selected by a user for listening may be recorded, or a programmable tuner or other input selector may automatically record desired music regardless of whether the music is being output for listening. The audio recorded may be obtained from any source, including analog and digital radio, Internet radio streams and removable pre-recorded media.
