    • A fuel vapor storage canister (10) having a screen module (52) between carbon granules (94) in the canister and a purge port (50) of the canister. The screen module (52) includes a module body (54) defining a plenum (62), a flat plastic foam screen (72) seated on an uninterrupted edge of a raised boss (60) on the module body around the plenum, and a retainer (74) clamped to the module body over the flat foam screen. A tubular stem (68) on the module body (54) plugs into a socket (36A) in the storage canister (10). An interference fit between the tubular stem (68) and the socket (36A) prevents migration of carbon granules between the socket and the tubular stem. The foam screen (72) is exposed to the carbon granules through a window in a planar side (76) of the retainer (74) which planar side, in a seated position of the retainer on the module body, cooperates with the uninterrupted edge of the raised boss (60) in compressing a segment (84) of the foam screen to define a seal around the window. Hooks (90) on the module body (54) cooperate with resilient loops (82) on the retainer (74) in maintaining the integrity of the seal around the foam screen (72) by preventing release of the retainer from its seated position on the module body.

    • A fuel vapor storage canister (10) including a mass of carbon granules (22) in a carbon bed chamber (20A,20B) of the canister, a liquid trap (34) having a polygonal internal chamber (44) between a vapor inlet port (48) and the carbon bed chamber, and a purge duct (66) traversing the polygonal chamber. The polygonal chamber includes a plurality of three sides (42,36B,36A) which define the gravitational bottom of the chamber in respective ones of a plurality of three orientations of the vapor storage canister. A pick-up tube (70) in the polygonal internal chamber has an outboard end (72) at the convergence of the aforesaid plurality of three sides (42,36B,36A) and an inboard end (74) surrounding an orifice (76) in the vapor purge duct. The inboard end of the pick-up tube is vertically above the maximum level of liquid fuel in the polygonal internal chamber in each of the aforesaid plurality of three orientations of the vapor storage canister. A pressure gradient between the vapor purge duct and the polygonal internal chamber induces liquid fuel to flow through the pick-up tube and the metering orifice into the vapor purge duct.

The fuel vapor storage canister (10) includes a cup-shaped plastic body (12), an integral partition (16) which divides the canister body into a pair of relatively deep carbon bed chambers (18A, 18B), and a plenum (26) in the canister body at an end of one of the carbon bed chambers which is connected to the purge port (62) and which is covered by the leak-proof screen assembly (64).
