    • A vehicle body-shell processing plant is provided wherein vehicle shells are fired and quenched prior to baling in a manner such as to avoid air pollution difficulties. Exhaust gases from the furnace and quencher stages of the system are routed through an air cleaning system such that only clean gases are exhausted from the system. Quenching is done in the system such that steam, entrained particulate matter, and residual exhaust gases are conveyed to a gas scrubbing system for cleansing purposes. Independent conveyors are utilized at feed-in, furnace, and quencher points. The quencher conveyor is designed to have a sloping construction such that there can be an automatic and continuous process to shell bodies for each intermittent group processed.

    • An improved shredder construction including a revolving shaft and a series of blade assemblies mounted by their associated hubs to the shaft. The individual hubs or hub sections are keyed to the shaft, whereas the respective blade assemblies are pinned to their respective hubs or hub assemblies. In the invention the composite hub structure includes a series of hub sectors, generally two, which are bolted together at opposite sides. Cutter bar bases supporting cutter bars operatively associated with the blades are raised at their underneath dimension such that centrifugal force will cause debris hanging on to the blade assembly, exposed relative to the cutter bases, to be thrown outwardly and downwardly free of the equipment. Accordingly, the cutter bar structure including their bases are relieved such that the blades will be exposed proximate their lowermost peripheral trajectories of travel. Blades are likewise affixed to the lower edges of the cutter bar structure such that should there be any remaining debris clinging to the blade structure, the same will be simply brushed or sheared as the blade returns upwardly, relative to its outer extremity, into the region between adjacent cutter bars. Solely a scissor-shear action is employed at the upper and lower edges of the cutter bars.

    • The present invention provides a system and method for processing municipal waste into useable products. In a preferred form of the invention the same may be utilized as a composting plant having a rapid time cycle, requiring for batch or continuous feed through operation, a small fraction of the processing time required by conventional biochemical composting plants. Central in the invention is the concept of utilizing a ball-mill to pulverize incoming materials. Specifically usable as a unique combination for municipal waste processing is a wetgrind ball-mill stage followed by a dry-grind ball-mill stage, nonfloatables being reduced by the former and floatables being reduced by the latter. Preferably, both outputs are later combined prior to compacting to produce a usable end product. Heat is supplied in the dry-grind ball-mill stage to preclude layer build up on the interior walls of the ball-mill. In one form of the invention the system or method is used in conjunction with a municipal sewage treatment plant wherein the liquid and sludge phases thereof are utilized in the system and method for milling and also for enriching the materials developed in the system and method, for ultimate processing as a useable fertilizer product.

    • The present invention comprises an industrial shredding apparatus which is usable in shredding many types of industrial waste, garbage, trash, and so forth. The shredding apparatus incorporates a pair of oppositely revolving shafts upon which are mounted respective sets of knives or cutting blades disposed such that the tips thereof form, compositely, helixlike configuration relative to each of the respective shafts. The blades are so arranged that they serve both in holding debris for cutting by adjacent blades, and, additionally, for cutting themselves in their own turn. The shredding mechanism is designed such that the cutting is done centrally of the apparatus, with associated structure being designed for urging debris falling thereon toward a central position relative to the apparatus. The device is ideally suited for shearing and/or cutting debris and allowing the same to pass through the shredder onto a transport conveyer, for example.
