    • A multi-point visual communication system which includes an adaptive filter part for controlling a spatial frequency characteristic of a video signal, a filter selector for selecting a video quality to be transmitted from its own site on the basis of integrated requests received from sites, and a filter control for adaptively controlling a filter characteristic taking both of a video information quantity and situations of a telecommunication network into consideration, and wherein a video signal processed by the adaptive filter part is subjected to an encoding operation and then transmitted to the telecommunication network. Thereby, the video quality can be selected according to users' requests, and the video quality of the multi-point visual communication can be improved without incurring an excessive increase of a video information quantity. Further, through the video signal processing taking both the video characteristic and the telecommunication network situations into consideration, a comparatively high quality of video transmission can be realized when viewed from an information quantity.

    • In a service system including client apparatuses for issuing a service request and server apparatuses for receiving a service request and providing service, there is provided a data relaying apparatus for relaying data communication between them. In response to a service request, the data relaying apparatus establishes a connection from the client apparatus to the server apparatus (destination). The data relaying apparatus relays data communication between the client apparatus and the server apparatus by using the established connection. The data relaying apparatus manages a number of connections established to each of the server apparatuses. In response to a service request, the data relaying apparatus accepts or refuses the service request so as to make a number of connections to the server apparatus equal to or less than a predetermined number, and notifies a user refused relaying of a service request that relaying is possible.

    • When a client-server system that adopts a Web service featuring dynamic connection among different systems is constructed, an existing priority control device therein disconnects communication with lower priority, at the time of server overload that continues for several hours. Thus, the availability of the system is reduced. A client-server Web service system includes a unit for interpreting communication protocols at a protocol layer 4 used in the system, a unit for receiving requests transmitted from clients to a server, for buffering, a unit for analyzing the protocol type, the destination, and the communication contents of each of the requests, a unit for converting the result of the analysis into a priority, and a unit for transmitting the buffered requests to the server based on the priority and then transmitting to the clients responses from the server.

    • A networking method and system for performing data communication to a client computer from a server computer having a plurality of network interfaces through a network. The invention includes a LAN switch, provided between the network and the server computer. The LAN switch includes a plurality of communication paths correspondingly connected to the network interfaces of the server computer. Any one of the communication paths are usable to connect the client computer with the server computer. The invention further includes a selector for selecting one of the communication paths in accordance with a quality of service (QOS) requested by the client computer. The selector selects the communication path using information contained in a routing table in the server computer based on a network address of the network connected to the client computer. The routing table includes the address of the network connected to the client computer and addresses of network interfaces of the server computer correspondingly connected to the communication path.
