    • PURPOSE:To lessen the shock to be given when a web takeup is ended, by determining the decelerative region starting point of a speed reference pattern through specified calculations, and decelerating the web handling speed as the running speed of web at a specified deceleration rate when the web takeup is finished till the mentioned starting point. CONSTITUTION:The length l of a web 2 to be taken up on a takeup reel 5 during a period corresponding to the deceleration region is determined from the formula l=Vc /2a, where Vc is web running speed in steady region and a is constant deceleration rate in deceleration region. When the taken-up length lx of the web 2 becomes equal to the difference of l from a specific amount L, the running speed is decelerated at the deceleration rate a. This accomplishes taking-up of web in the specified length on the takeup reel 5 at the very point of time when the web running speed has become just zero.
