    • The invention relates to a process for separating dimethyl isophthalate (DMI) and dimethyl orthophthalate (DMO) and other by-products from their mixture with dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), formed in the oxidation of p-xylene followed by esterification with methanol, by crystallization from the melt.Initially, the esterification product is here distilled once or several times. The DMT-rich fraction obtained is then subjected wholly or partially to one or several crystallizations from the melt, and the DMI-DMO fraction thus obtained is at least partially removed from the system. As an alternative, the DMT-rich fraction is first recrystallized from methanol, the methanol is then evaporated from the mother liquor and the remaining residue is subjected to one or several crystallizations from the melt. The DMI-DMO fraction thus obtained is again at least partially removed from the system.

    • The rectifier having inserts for evaporation and condensation is constructed on the basis of modules (19). Each module has a distributor channel (5) for the liquid. The distributor channel (5) is positioned above the upper rim of an evaporater (1) inclined in the direction of the module axis. The evaporator (1) ends above a guide element (13) for the liquid. The guide element (13) is inclined in the direction of the module wall (14) and ends above the distributor channel (5) of the next module. The module is furthermore provided with a guide element (2) for the vapor and a condenser (10). The condenser (10) has drain elements (11, 15) for the condensate.

    • An automatic spool-changing system for textile machines with an array of high-speed winding heads, for example of the type having a spool revolver and a lossless thread transfer device. The system has a conveyor moving along the machine front and a spool changer with a gripper movable between the conveyor and a spool holder in a spool-changing position. The conveyor is located below and in generally the same vertical plane with the spool holder, and the gripper, which is arranged for both rotation and axial translation, is mounted for movement along a three-legged spool doffing and spool-donning path extending forwardly of the machine front. Two embodiments are shown. In the first, a separate empty-spool magazine is provided and the conveyor merely serves to carry away the empty spools. In the second, the conveyor serves for the transportation both of full spools and empty spools; in this case the gripper has two angularly displaced heads so that it can execute a spool-doffing and spool-donning operation simultaneously. Controls for the spool-changing system are also disclosed.

    • A method and apparatus for winding a continuously advancing yarn, wherein the yarn is wound into a package that is formed on a rotating tubular core, the yarn being traversed by a yarn guide within a traverse stroke. At the beginning of each traverse stroke, the yarn guide is accelerated within a reversal length to a guiding speed, and after traversing the traverse length it is decelerated within a second reversal length. The yarn traversing mechanism includes a belt drive system for reciprocating the yarn guide and which is controlled by a programmable control device such that the yarn guide is moved within a traverse stroke which is axially shorter than the package length and which is reciprocated between the ends of the package without changing the length of the traverse stroke.
