    • A location sentry system is provided for use within a mobile device. The sentry system can be configured to detect unauthorized attempts to locate mobile devices by monitoring messages passed between the mobile device and the wireless network and/or messages passed between components of the mobile device, and determining that one or more of the messages is/are indicative of an attempt to locate the mobile device. In response to a determination that an unauthorized attempt has been detected, the location sentry can be configured to take one or more actions. For example, the location sentry system could prevent location information from being sent back to the wireless network and/or the location sentry system could cause incorrect information to be sent to the wireless network.

    • Mobile LMUs can be used in a Wireless Location System to provide detection coverage in areas lacking adequate receiver coverage. The mobile LMUs can be used to detect the radio frequency (RF) transmissions from wireless handsets and devices over a period of time to permit determination of their location. The mobile LMU's time, position, and velocity is calculated and transmitted to a SMLC along with any transmissions received from wireless devices. The SMLC analyzes and resolves the Doppler component of the wireless device while compensating for the Doppler component of the mobile LMU. The position and velocity of the wireless device can be compared with real-time imagery taken by the mobile LMU platform to accurately determine the location of the wireless device. To enhance the mobile LMU's ability to detect a signal of interest, which may be very weak and/or corrupted by noise, a process may be employed whereby the low power mobile terminals' signals are received at receiving sites and stored in memory. Then, a more powerful replica of the SOI is received at a later time from a network controller, or BTS, and this is employed to enhance the correlation processing of the SOI in memory.

    • A multiple pass location processing method, for use in a wireless location system (WLS), comprises identifying a received transmission as requiring multiple pass location processing whereby the WLS produces a first, lower quality location estimate and then subsequently produces a second, higher quality location estimate. The WLS then produces the first location estimate and provides it to a first location application, and then produces the second location estimate. The second location estimate may be a more accurate estimate than the first location estimate and/or of a higher confidence than the first location estimate. This method is suitable, but not limited, for use in connection with locating a wireless transmitter involved in an emergency services call and routing the call to a call center.

    • A system for locating a mobile wireless device is configured to communicate with a wireless communications system via a control plane and a user plane. The user plane includes a data channel, and the system includes a server configured to communicate via the data channel with a wireless device to be located. The server obtains from the wireless device information useful for tasking the wireless location system. The information useful for tasking may include information indicative of at least one cell site neighboring a serving cell site with which the wireless device is communicating. This may include information indicative of a serving cell site, a reverse channel through which the wireless device is communicating, and/or a hopping pattern, etc. The system may be used, for example, in connection with a GSM or UMTS wireless communications system.
