    • An extract of Chinese blackberry (Rubus suavissimus) has been found to inhibit angiogenesis, and two active fractions isolated. Gallic acid was shown to be one of the active anti-angiogenic compounds by an in vitro human angiogenesis model. Aqueous extracts from other plants either known or found to have gallic acid were also found to have anti-angiogenic activity. Various derivatives of gallic acid were found to inhibit angiogenesis. The extract from Chinese blackberry also slowed the growth of a pancreatic tumor and of corneal neovascularization in rats. Extracts from pomegranate were shown to inhibit angiogenesis in fat tissue. Extracts from Rubus spp, and other plants with gallic acid, and gallic acid and its derivatives will be useful for treating various diseases associated with neovascularization, including diabetic retinopathy, psoriasis, tumors, obesity, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

    • The present techniques include methods and systems for detecting a high resistive ground fault condition in an HRG system. Embodiments include systems and methods of measuring drive voltages and detecting voltage changes in the drive once the drive is in operation, particularly for drives operating at relatively low voltages and frequencies. In some embodiments, an integrator is utilized to detect peaks in the measured voltage changes. Relatively small ground currents are also measured to determine HRG faults. Moreover, in some embodiments, the detection of an HRG fault for one of several motor drives provide indication for the particular motor drive in fault.

    • Enhanced methods have been discovered, using either sonication or homogenization followed by increased temperature and pressure, to solubilize compounds using diterpene glycosides and to produce a powder form of the compound-solubilizer complex than can be reconstituted in water. Without the diterpene glycoside, the compounds were insoluble or sparingly soluble in water, including some fat-insoluble vitamins. Water solutions of these compounds were made using a diterpene glycoside solubilizer, for example, rubusoside. The compound-solubilizer complex was then dehydrated to a stable powder that could then be reconstituted with water. A reconstituted drug-solubilizer complex (curcumin-rubusoside) was shown to be effective on reconstitution. In addition, the diterpene glycoside, rubusoside, was shown to be an inhibitor of permeability glycoprotein (P-gp), and will thus increase gastrointestinal absorption of certain drugs administered with rubusoside.

    • The present invention relates to a protective circuit to provide over voltage protection for an ASD. The protective circuit provides the benefits of fewer components with lower power ratings than existing protective circuits. The protective circuit may be incorporated directly in the ASD for continuous protection or mounted externally and connected to the ASD under operating conditions that require the circuit. This flexibility for mounting the protective circuit allows the capacitor of the protective circuit to be sized either in relation to capacitive elements on the DC bus within the ASD or according to external capacitance observed at the output of the ASD. The diterpene glycosides are a naturally occurring class of water solubility-enhancing compounds that are non-toxic and that will be useful as new complexing agents or excipients in the pharmaceutical, agricultural (e.g., solubilizing pesticides), cosmetic and food industries. Aqueous solutions by using rubusoside to increase the solubility of otherwise insoluble drugs will have several new routes of administration. In addition, aqueous solutions of therapeutic compounds with rubusoside were shown to retain the known pharmacological activity of the compounds.
