    • A trace conductor array includes an electrically insulative support substrate and a plurality of electrical signal trace conductors formed along substantially parallel paths in a single layer on the substrate. The electrical signal trace conductors each have a plurality of spaced apart trace conductor segments. Passive electrical trace conductors are formed on the substrate in spaces between the spaced apart adjacent trace conductor segments, and are spaced apart and electrically isolated therefrom. The passive trace conductors generally follow a geometry of the spaced apart segments and thereby repel magnetic flux lines at higher frequencies and result in decoupling of the high frequency current-carrying conductor trace segments. A preferred application is for interconnecting a head and a preamplifier/drive circuit within a hard disk drive.

    • Mechanically formed standoffs in a disk drive integrated circuit interconnect reduces the cost of manufacturing and improves the reliability of the electrical interconnections thereof. Connection pads defined along the interconnect are bonded with bonding pads of a signal producing source and a signal processing source. The standoffs provide mechanical stops during the bonding process, enabling sufficient bonding material to form between bonding areas. The standoffs are mechanically formed with a punch and die assembly either directly through a bonding pad predefined along traces on the interconnect or adjacent the bonding pad. The standoffs formed through the bonding pads are covered with solder or other electrically conductive bonding material.

    • A disk system comprising an upper and lower head gimbal assembly, a coarse positioning servo system that includes a stepper motor for 135 TPI operation and a voice coil motor type servo for 1251 TPI operation that is driven by a optical servo system which locates optical track positioning information previously recorded on 3.5 inch microfloppies. The optical system focuses a spot of infrared light on the microfloppy which is channeled back to a detector. Each head gimbal includes a ceramic slider with two air bearing surfaces. A very high density magnetic core is positioned in one air bearing surface and high density magnetic core is located in the other air bearing surface. Both upper and lower sliders are such that the floppy disk media is pinched between them. The gaps of the magnetic cores are positioned within the leading edge half of their respective air bearing surfaces and take advantage of the tendency of the sliders to plow into the floppy disk media. The very high density and high density cores are offset differently from the centerline of the sliders to reduce crosstalk coupling between heads on opposite sides of the floppy disk media.
