    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a one-way clutch having a small pressure supporting stress applied, able to be formed easily from a reinforced metal, and capable of being embodied at low cost with a high reliability.
      SOLUTION: The one-way clutch comprises a cam plate 300 including a cam arranged with a spacing reserved in the angle direction around the center axis and a rocker plate 320 including pockets arranged with a spacing reserved in the angle direction around the center axis. Each pocket 322 includes a first recessed surface 324 having a center inside the pocket and admitting passage of the rotary shaft through the center. Each pocket 322 stores a rocker 340 including a first convex surface 342 arranged complementarily with the first recessed surface 324 and surrounded partially with the first recessed surface 324. Each of spring members 327 supported by the rocker plate 320 energizes the rocker 340 around the rotary shaft toward the cam plate 300.

      SOLUTION: The one-way clutch of ratchet type comprises a cam plate furnished with a cam surface arranged with a spacing reserved in the angle direction around the center axis and a rocker plate having pockets arranged with a spacing reserved in the angle direction around the center axis, wherein each pocket includes a surface having a rotary shaft placed in the pocket. Rocker placed in each pocket rotates round the rotary axis in such a way as approaching the cam surface and then separating from the cam surface. The rocker has a center of mass and is arranged relative to the rotary shaft so that the acute angle formed between the first line extending in the radial direction upon passing the rotary shaft from the center axis and the second line passing the center of mass and the rotary shaft is 20 degs. or less when the rocker separates from the cam surface and retreats into the pocket.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost one-way clutch which materializes low backlash during operation and can be easily formed of reinforced metal.
      SOLUTION: A one-way clutch is provided with a first race 22 having pockets 28 arranged so as to be separated from each other. The pocket 28 is equipped with an opening in the outer surface of the first race 22, and surrounded by a wall extending along a part of an edge thereof and including a drive surface. A second race 24 includes a series of notches 32 (cams) alternatively formed on the outer surface opposed to the opening of the pocket 28. A plurality of rockers 160 are disposed in the pockets 28. Each rocker 160 is equipped with an engagement surface 180 drivably engaged with and disengaged from the notch 32, a reaction surface 162 for being engaged with the drive surface when the engagement surface 180 is drivably engaged with the notch 32, and guide surfaces for abutting onto the wall of the pocket 28 to guide the movement of the rocker 160 from a disengaged position toward an engaged position. A spring member 44 on the first race 22 is biased in a direction in which the rocker 160 is engaged with the cam surface 194.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier assembly for an automatic transmission capable of reducing backlash during operation and including an inexpensive one-way brake capable of being easily manufactured by using reinforced metal.
      SOLUTION: This carrier assembly for a planetary gearset of the transmission includes a pinion carrier, a one-way brake having a rocker ring 22 integral with the pinion carrier and having multiple pockets mutually spaced about an axis and located on an outer radial surface of the carrier. A cam ring includes multiple notches angularly spaced about the axis and facing the rocker ring 22. A rocker 86, located in each pocket, pivots about a pivot center to engage the cam ring, and a spring member 44 urges each rocker 86 to pivot toward engagement with the cam ring. A hydraulically actuated friction brake secured to the carrier alternately holds the carrier against rotation relative to a housing and permits the carrier to rotate.
