    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant optical fiber cord which has high flame retardance, preferably has non-halogen flame retardance, is excellent in mechanical properties, such as strength and flexibility (pliability), is relatively simple in a manufacturing method and can sufficiently deal with the trend toward a smaller diameter of the optical fiber cord and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cord is successively provided with a fiber buffer layer consisting of high-tension fibers and a plastic sheath on a coated optical fiber or coated optical fiber ribbon, in which the fiber buffer layer is subjected to a flame-resisting treatment by a non-halogen flame retardant in the form of powder.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single-core optical fiber tight cord which will not cause cracks in a coating, even if bending stress is added and which facilitates the extraction work of the optical fiber.
      SOLUTION: An optical fiber 3 is disposed in the center, and the outside of the fiber 3 is solidified with a UV resin 5B, with the addition of a plurality of glass fibers 5A outside the fiber 3 and further the fiber is coated with a UV resin 7 and with a material having superior stretching characteristics and bending characteristics, such as nylon (nylon 12) 9 as the outermost layer. Thus, even if bending stress is repeatedly added to the fiber, the coatings are free from cracks. Because the nylon (nylon 12) 9 has satisfactory slippage property, the work of drawing the fiber can be carried out easily.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single-core optical fiber cord, in which handling characteristics can be improved, while maintaining sufficient strength and flame retardant property and without producing toxic gas during combustion.
      SOLUTION: The outside diameter of the single-core optical fiber 2 is specified to 0.4 to 0.6 mm and the fiber is coated with UV/Ny coating. The optical fiber is further surrounded by 600 d to 1000 d high-tensile fibers 5 and further coated with a flame retardant nylon resin 7 of 0.2 to 0.3 mm thickness as the outermost layer. Thus, the cord diameter of the single fiber cord 1 is reduced to improve the handling properties and to obtain proper looseness of the optical fiber. Moreover, flame retardant property, required for example, by the horizontal combustion test by JIS can be obtained.
