    • PURPOSE:To provide the optical fiber cable which can house coated optical fibers at a high density, has excellent flexibility and can maintain the uniformity of the optical transmission characteristics of the respective coated fibers against the physical deformation including bending. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber cable is constituted by housing plural pieces of coated fiber ribbons 5 which are arrayed with plural pieces of the coated optical fibers 1 in parallel and are integrally molded to have arc-shaped cross sections into a tube 3. The respective coated fiber ribbons 5 of the cable are arranged annularly by directing the projecting surfaces of the arc-shaped surfaces thereof toward the outer side. The ends 51 on one side of the respective coated fiber ribbons are in contact or proximity to or with the inside surface of the tube 3 and the ends 52 on the other side is in contact or proximity to or with the recessed surface parts 53 of the coated fiber ribbons 5' adjacent thereto.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent intrusion of water into coated fibers of an optical fiber tape, and to reduce the weight and the diameter of an optical cable by providing at outer layer as a package coating layer, which is impregnated with a resin having waterproof effect. CONSTITUTION:A coated-fiber tape 15 is provided with a package coating layer 17, on the surface of which an outer layer 17a is impregnated with a resin having a waterproof effect. The outer layer 17a is impregnated with a waterproof resin such as a liquid asphalt of low viscosity, a silicone resin, or fat and oil, in the fine network structure of the surface of the package coating layer 17 comprising ultraviolet hardening resin and so on. When the coated- fiber tape 15 is to be manufacture, after coated-fiber tape is manufactured following a general method, it is passed through a waterproof resin of low viscosity, such as liquid asphalt, silicone resin or fat and oil, for a predetermined period of time. A waterproof resin of viscosity of no more than 100cps is preferred to deeply impregnate the package coating layer 17 with the waterproof resin through the fine network structure of the package coating layer 17.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent optical fibers from being broken by passing an optical fiber bundle which is composed of a plurality of optical fibers arranged in parallel through a dice hole where one side is formed by a metal or the like and the other side formed by a softer material. CONSTITUTION:There is used a dice 15 which consists of a rubber block 12 loaded on a metal block 11 which is formed with a groove to be a dice hole 10 on the upper surface and fixed by means of fixing pins 13, and provided with a supplying passage 14 made of ultraviolet ray resin communicating with the dice hole 10. It is recommended that the dimension of the dice hole 10 in the minor diameter direction shall not be greater than the outer diameter of an element wire 2 plus 20mum, and the dimension in the major diameter direction shall not be greater than the width of the element wire bundle plus 100mum. There are inserted into the dice hole 10 of this dice 15a plurality of optical fiber element wires 2 in the condition of the element wires arranged in parallel along in the horizontal direction. Then, thenon-hardened ultraviolet ray hardening type resin is supplied from the supplying passage 14, and resin coating is applied to an element wire bundle 16. Urethane acrylate, epoxyacrylate or the like is included in this resin. Then, the element wire bundle 16 is introduced into a hardening device 5 to harden the resin by ultraviolet rays.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the influence on the transmission of light signals even at the time of movement of a connection reinforcing member and to improve the reliability of transmission by ordinarily maintaining the radius of curvature of optical fibers to a specific length or above by flexible covering materials for covering the parts of the optical fibers exposed near the connection reinforcing member. SOLUTION: The reinforcing sleeve 20 is brought into tight contact with the circumference of an optical fiber fusing part 11 by thermally shrinking the sleeve after the sleeve is mounted at the outer side of the optical fiber fusing part 11, by which the sleeve is molded to a rod shape of a circular shape in section. The protective tubes 21 are formed of the materials, such as rubber, having flexibility, and are cylindrical members having a length size of about some tens mm which maintain the radius of curvature of >=30mm at all times, thereby permitting the curving of the optical fibers 10. The protective tubes 21 are formed to the shape with which their inside surfaces are mounted in tight contact with the outer peripheral surface of the optical fibers 10 as a whole. The tubes are fixed to the reinforcing sleeve 20 by their own shrinkage force when their one-side ends 22 are put on the outer side of the reinforcing sleeve 20.
