    • A gerotor pump includes a pair of relief ports superimposed on and directly communicating with the pump's inlet and outlet channels, respectively. The relief ports simultaneously communicate with an open mesh pumping chamber so as to provide an intermittent controlled leak from the open mesh pumping chamber. Upon rotation of the gear members of the gerotor pump when the volume in the open mesh pumping chamber is increasing to a maximum volume, fluid in the open mesh pumping chamber vents into the relief port superimposed on and communicating with the outlet channel while continuing to communicate with the relief port superimposed on and communicating with the inlet channel. Upon further rotation of the gear member when the volume in the open mesh pumping is decreasing, fluid in the open mesh pumping chamber is prevented from venting into the relief port superimposed and communicating with the inlet channel while continuing to communicate with the relief port superimposed on and communicating with the outlet channel. Thus, fluid over-pressure in an excessive fluid leakage from the open mesh pumping chamber is limited.

    • A motor mounted within the pump housing has a shaft extending from it and able to rotate upon application of an electrical current to the motor and a rotary pumping element, pref. an impeller or a regenerative turbine, attached to the shaft for rotatably pumping fuel. A pump bottom, which is mounted to the housing, has an outlet through it in fluid communication with a motor chamber surrounding the motor. An opening allows the shaft to pass through to connect to the impeller. A semi-elliptically shaped channel is formed along an outer circumference of the impeller mating surface of the pump bottom. A pump cover, also having a semi-elliptically shaped channel formed along an outer circumference of the impeller mating surface, is mounted on an end of the housing and is attached to the pump bottom with the impeller positioned between the two. A pumping chamber is thus formed between the pump cover and the pump bottom. When the impeller rotates, elliptically shaped primary vortices are created in the pumping chamber such that secondary vortices are minimised or eliminated, thus resulting in higher pump efficiency. The pump cover also has a fuel inlet through it in fluid communication with the fuel tank and with the pumping chamber.
