The pump can be controlled to improve the operation of the washing machine. In one aspect the invention comprises a washing machine (7) with a variable speed pump (8) for pumping out wastewater, a controller (50) for controlling the speed of the pump and a sensor (10) for determining the flow-rate of water being pumped from the washing machine, wherein the controller (50) controls the speed of the pump to maintain the flow-rate at a desirable level.

摘要： A laundry drying machine includes a cabinet and a laundry holding drum rotatably supported within the cabinet for rotation about a horizontal axis. The drum includes a cylindrical wall and a pair of ends. A drum hatch comprises a section of the cylindrical wall. A drive motor is connected to drive rotation of the drum via a drive belt. A hatch engaging member is actuable to grasp and hold the drum hatch relative to the cabinet while the drum is rotating. A controller operatively connected with the drive motor is configured to operate the machine through each of: a) a drum opening operation in which the drum hatch is grabbed by the hatch engaging member while the drum is rotating and the drum is rotated through a hatch opening rotation to expose an opening; b) a drum closing operation, which follows the drum opening operation and in which the drum is rotated to re-close the opening with the drum hatch, and c) a water extraction operation.

Date Mar. 3, 1994An electric motor is suitable for use in, for example, a home appliance, such as a refrigerator/freezer, to drive a fan blade. The electric motor includes a permanent magnet rotor and an excited two part laminated stator. The two parts of the stator are adapted to be connected together about the rotor with the axis of the rotor in the plane of the laminations. The rotor has two axially separated pole regions and the stator is configured to provide a separate rotor receiving pole pair for each rotor pole region. Each stator pole pair provides a rotor receiving space within which respective rotor pole regions are disposed, wherein the stator is made up of separate laminations of ferromagnetic material and adjacent laminations are displaced relative to each other in the plane of the laminations in directions perpendicular to the rotor axis such that the stator poles are each formed by a pair of semi-circular shaped poles to provide the rotor receiving spaces. The stator is constructed from a single piece, with a central portion of the piece being removed and the remaining unitary portion being juxtaposed to form a magnetic circuit having two circular rotor receiving spaces adapted to receive the rotor. A method of constructing the stator for the electric motor from a single piece of laminated magnetically permeable material is also disclosed.

摘要： A washing machine with a bowl adapted to hold water in an interior portion, the washing machine has a pump coupled to the bowl and adapted to pump water from the bowl. The pump has a housing coupled to or integrated with the bowl. The outlet in the housing is coupled to a recirculation conduit for recirculation of water to the bowl interior. A pump actuator is disposed in the housing for transferring water to the outlet and recirculation conduit. The conduit provides fluid communication between the exterior of the housing and the outlet to substantially equalise water pressure such that water in the recirculation conduit does not rise above the water level in the washing machine bowl.

摘要： A washing machine is disclosed which comprises: a bowl adapted to hold water, an inlet with a valve connectable to the water supply, a variable speed pump, a controller, a ventilation timer, and a pump timer. The inlet with valve allows a controlled introduction of water into the bowl. The variable speed pump recirculates water within the bowl, and a sensor measures one or more parameters indicative of current drawn by the pump during operation. The controller controls the speed of the pump and, by control of the valve, controls the flow of water into the bowl. The controller (a) receives input from the sensor and determines pump current from the one or more parameters indicative of current, (b) detects ventilation if the pump current is less than a threshold, and (c) reduces the speed of the pump, or stops the pump, and/or introduces water into the bowl if ventilation is detected in order to reduce the effects of ventilation. Where the controller detects ventilation, the controller stops the pump, increases the ventilation timer, determines a ratio of pump timer value with respect to a ventilation timer value, and operates the valve to introduce water into the bowl based on a first relationship of the ratio to a threshold.
