    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constant energy supply device, for use with a fixed medical treatment system for comparatively effective treatment for a patient during laser surgical operation. SOLUTION: This energy delivery device includes a fixed optical fiber and a fixed memory device having data programmed therein. The data is associated with the energy self-absorption properties of the optical fiber. The data includes a fixed calibration parameter showing a fixed self heating characteristic of the optical fiber. The optical fiber and the memory device are operatively connected to the energy delivery device during the use of the medical treatment system. The calibration parameter saved in the memory device is used by a fixed main processor for calculating the value of a fixed corrected temperature from a fixed measured temperature in a fixed cured region. After that, the output level of a fixed energy generator is automatically controlled according to the corrected temperature value, whereby suitable energy is surely delivered to the human tissue through the light diffusion section of the optical fiber. The optical fiber can be directly inserted into an appropriate position in the varix or the other inner cavity for performing the thermotherapy of the vein or the other inner cavity.     • A medical apparatus and method useful for the efficacious thermal treatment of lumen such as varicose veins during laser surgery is provided. The method includes inserting an optical fiber into a lumen at a treatment site which has at least two treatment segments. The light-emitting section of the optical fiber is aligned with a first treatment segment within the treatment site. Energy is emitted into the lumen at the first treatment segment and a temperature of the lumen is measured at the first treatment segment. The energy delivered to the treatment segment can be adjusted in response to the temperature measurement. The light-emitting section is moved to at least a second treatment segment within the lumen and energy is emitted into the lumen at the second treatment segment. During treatment at the second treatment segment, the temperature of the lumen is measured at the second treatment segment. This method can also include storing a temperature target in the memory device; generating a temperature signal using the temperature sensor; utilizing the temperature signal to determine the measured temperature; and comparing the measured temperature to the temperature target stored in the memory device. The light-emitting section is moved to the next treatment segment when the measured temperature is equal or greater than the temperature target.
