    • The present invention discloses a dual spiral fluorescent lamp that is smaller in volume than a conventional one. To provide for a reduced size compact fluorescent lamp, the end portions of the spiral glass tube are anchored into the holes within the cover of a bi-pin case. Inside of each end portion is a glass stem through which a pair of cathode support wires are passed. The cathode itself is welded to the extreme ends of each cathode support wire. To achieve the short-legged lamp, the cathode support wires lying between the cathode and the stem are bent downward at approximately 60 degrees from the vertically positioned stem. Therefore, by successfully avoiding the cathode coming in contact with the phosphor coating lining the interior of the tube, which may affect the natural lighting emitted by the fluorescent lamp, the two end portions of the fluorescent lamp of the present invention can be much shortened, resulting in a smaller volume than a conventional compact fluorescent lamp.

    • An enhanced safety system for the conversion of luminaria that uses halogen lighting technology to a safe and efficient fluorescent lighting system. Quartz halogen bulbs operate at elevated temperatures and pressures. Fires have been known to have been started when a lighting fixture is accidentally toppled where some combustible material is in close proximity. This novel retrofit system provides for the safe and efficient operation of torchiere uplighted lighting systems. By retrofitting a lighting fixture to a fluorescent lamp using this adapter, there is an immediate benefit in reduced operating cost. For the equivalent light output, there can be a cost savings reduction by a factor of six or seven to one. In addition, the retrofit components can be used in the fabrication and assembly of newly designed and manufactured torchiere uplighted lighting systems.

    • A novel energy efficient recessed downlighted lighting fixture, using a compact laterally twisted, fluorescent lamp, and electronic ballast, provides an easy to install procedure for retrofit installations. Using an integrated socket-and-ballast subassembly, the overall height is reduced so that it can find use with existing metal housings. This recessed fixture uses a newly designed energy efficient compact fluorescent lamp as the primary lighting source. This fluorescent lamp, which is a laterally twisted tube commonly referred to as a “springlamp” allows the shortest lamp known to the fluorescent lamp industry. It provides for minimal light trapping, thereby creating the maximum concentrated lighting output, and lighting distribution that is closest to the illumination supplied by an incandescent bulb. The laterally twisted “SpringLamp” is centrally positioned at the focal point of the parabolically shaped portion of the reflector to produce a collimated-like downlighted column of concentrated light that enhances the illumination efficiency when measured at the central portion of the beam.

    • A light tube for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp includes a light tube body, anode and cathode disposed in the light tube body and an activated gas absorber. The light tube body contains inert gas, mercury substance and a layer of phosphor coating on its inner surface. The activated gas absorber is gas absorber made of zirconium-aluminum alloy which can be activated at an activation temperature substantially lower than 900 degrees Celsius, preferably 390 degrees Celsius, to provide stronger oxygenic gas absorption ability while reducing the manufacturing steps and cost.

    • The present invention relates to a novel energy efficient, universal replaceable electronic ballast, using compatible adapters, for use in fluorescent lighting fixtures and/or table/floor lamps. This novel energy efficient, universal replaceable electronic ballast comprises a family of electronic ballasts for use with currently available fluorescent lamps; the first being a Circlelite lamp, the second, a compact SpringLamp, the third, either a double or triple biaxial compact fluorescent lamp, and the fourth, a 2D fluorescent lamp. Additionally, these electronic ballasts are available in either an instant start (IS) or a rapid start (RS) designs. It is advantageous to use these universal ballasts with the aforementioned fluorescent lamps because of their increased longevity, typically 9,000 to 10,000 hours, their reduced operating costs and energy efficiencies. Additionally. there are five newly designed families of adapters that are compatible with the universal plug-in electronic ballasts. The first adapter is designed for use with a low profile lighting fixtures having a tabbed base that is secured using two self-tapping screws or rivets, the second adapter for use with a low profile lighting fixtures having a twist-lock mounting base, and a third adapter for use with a low profile fixture having a screw-lock type base. A fourth adapter, having a local switch operating capability, gives height to a table or floor lamp for a coordinated appearance with its accoutrement lampshade. The fifth adapter, having a remote switch operating capability, also gives height to a table or floor lamp for a coordinated appearance with its accoutrement lampshade.
