    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating and removing shots efficiently from fibers after their spinning in producing the fiber.
      SOLUTION: In this method for separating and removing the shots 2 attached to the one end of the fibers 1 after the spinning on producing the fibers by melting an inorganic mineral and spinning, the shots are separated from the fibers by agitating the fibers after the spinning in an agitation water 7 with swirling flows 9, 10, settling the separated shots to the bottom of the water by standing still in the water after the agitation and also floating the fibers in the water, and recovering them separately. In order to accelerating the separation of the shot from the fibers, a surfactant having air-accompanying property is added to the agitation water. An agitating device 6 equipped with an agitating blade 5 for generating the swirling flow 9 in horizontal direction and the swirling flow 10 in up and down direction, is used.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant for producing uniform fly ash fiber from coal ash using no electricity as energy with no need of the pretreatment of removing unburnt carbon fractions. SOLUTION: The plant has the following construction: There is equipped a melting furnace of such a structure as to melt coal ash using coal as fuel and allow the resulting molten slag to fall via a slag tap. A slag pond is provided under the slag tap and furnished with a slag outlet, which is so structured as to form a molten slag pool, and there is provided a molten slag discharge means functioning to make molten slag overflow at a position higher than the slag outlet. Further, there is equipped a fiber-forming machine functioning to spray falling molten slag with air to effect fiber formation. With this plant, a given amount of molten slag can be discharged via the slag outlet, and by keeping the air jet level via an air nozzle constant, the objective uniform fly ash fiber can be produced.
