摘要： A biopsy system may have modes whereby fluid communication varies as a function of an axial position of a cutter. A tissue sample holder may be rotatable to index tissue chambers defined by removable trays, and may include a passage for inserting an instrument. A controller may control a tissue sample holder rotation mechanism based on the sensed position of a rotatable manifold, such as to present a collected biopsy sample to a user before collecting another biopsy sample in another chamber. A biopsy system may have an interface including visual features and user input devices. A vacuum canister may come packaged with tubing, and may include a port configured to mate with a port in a vacuum control module upon engagement of the canister with the module. A biopsy device may include features for sharps reduction, light sources, a motor driven firing mechanism, or a fine pitch drivetrain.

摘要： A tissue retrieval device includes an introducer tube and a tissue retrieval bag. The introducer tube is sized to be inserted into a patient through a trocar. The tissue retrieval bag may be selectively exposed at the distal end of the introducer tube within the patient. The tissue retrieval bag may receive a tissue specimen and be withdrawn from the patient. The tissue retrieval bag may include an inflatable portion. When inflated, the inflatable portion may extend the tissue retrieval bag from a contracted configuration to an expanded configuration. The inflatable portion may substantially seal a tissue specimen within the tissue retrieval bag. The tissue retrieval bag may me formed of an environmentally sensitive material such that the size of the tissue retrieval bag expands when the tissue retrieval bag is exposed within the patient.

摘要： A surgical instrument can comprise an end effector including a plurality of jaws which can be configured to compress tissue therebetween. The end effector can further comprise one or more electrodes which can be configured to direct a flow of electrical current through the tissue in order to heat the tissue and denature collagen and/or other proteins within the tissue. As the tissue cools, the collagen and/or other proteins can renature and thereby seal the tissue. In certain embodiments, the end effector of the surgical instrument can further comprise movable portions which can apply a tension force to the tissue surrounding the tissue being sealed. In various circumstances, the tension force can reduce the over-denaturation, shrinkage, and/or other damage to the surrounding tissue caused by heat flowing from the end effector during the sealing process.

摘要： Methods and devices are provided for performing surgical procedures using tissue retractors. In general, a surgical retractor device is provided that includes a flexible fabric tissue retractor configured to support tissue. At least one grasping element can be coupled to a perimeter of the flexible fabric, and the grasping elements can be manipulated to couple the flexible fabric to a surgical port, e.g., a trocar, inserted through a body wall and extending into a body cavity. The grasping element can also be configured to move the flexible fabric and thereby move the tissue.

摘要： Methods and devices for using surgical devices with articulating end effectors are provided. Surgical devices with articulating end effectors can provide rotary driven pivoting of the end effector. In some embodiments, the device can include a handle, a first and a second tube extending from the handle, the second tube disposed within the first tube, and an end effector that includes a pair of distal jaws configured to move in response to rotation of the first tube about a longitudinal axis thereof and rotation of the second tube about a longitudinal axis thereof. The jaws can move in two different ways depending on whether the first and second tubes are rotating in a same direction as one another or in different ways than each other. The jaws can open/close and articulate using the same mechanical mechanism. The device can be powered, or the device can be non-powered.
