    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catheter-gripping device for measuring catheter insertion force during a medical procedure. SOLUTION: A catheter-gripping device to measure a catheter insertion force during a medical procedure includes first and second handle members which are used in a closed-handle position to at least partially surround a medical catheter. The first slide subassembly is slidably attached to the first handle member 22 only along an axis substantially parallel to the lengthwise axis of the first handle member 22. The second slide subassembly is likewise the first slide assembly attached to the second handle member 24. The two slide subassemblies installed on the first and second handle members 22, 24 together grip the catheter. The load cell has a force-measuring axis arranged substantially parallel to the lengthwise axis and is operably attached to the first slide subassembly and the first handle member 22.
