    • A theatrical luminaire (20) for entertainment and architectural applications includes a lamp socket (54) accessible from the exterior of the luminaire housing (24). A lamp (50) includes a base (116), a bulb (112) on one side of the base (116) and a handle (118) on the other side. The handle (118) is grasped to insert the lamp (50) into the socket (54).     • A lighting fixture (10) configured to image a high-intensity beam (12) of light at a distant location with a variable beam spread and a variable image distance. The lighting fixture (10) includes an illuminator (14) mounted on a front projection system (16). The illuminator (14) includes an elliptical reflector (68) defining two focal points. A lamp (66) is at one of the reflector's focal points, while an aperture (43) of the front projection system (16) is at the reflector's other focal point. The front projection system (16) includes a tubular housing (18) having shutter blades (50) moveably positionable in the aperture (48) to obstruct light passing through the second focal point. A rear lens (20) receives and transmits light emitted by the illuminator (14), while a front lens (22) is configured to receive light transmitted by the first lens (20) and project it at the distant location. The lenses (20, 22) are contained within the housing (18). A positioning mechanism (24) is mounted on the housing (18), and includes a rack and pinion gear device (54, 62, 64) that adjusts the distance between the front (22) and rear (20) lenses in response to the rotation of an actuator (26). The actuator (26) is configured to slide along a slot (52) in the housing (18), controlling the translation of the first (20) and second (22) lenses with respect to the illuminator (14). The actuator (26) is configured with a shielding baffle (76) that covers the slot (52), and with field angle indicia (74) labelling the actuator (26) with beam spread settings. The actuator is further configured with a locking cam lever (28) that constrains the actuator (26) from being moved with respect to the housing (18) when the locking cam lever (28) is in a locked position.
