    • An apparatus and a method for data streaming, as well as a combination, of an apparatus (1) for data streaming and a plurality of user devices, are presented.     • The present invention refers to a method and an apparatus for switching data between a set of input bitstreams and a set of output bitstreams in a circuit switched time division multiplexed network, each of said bitstreams being divided into recurring frames and each of said frames being divided into time slots. According to the invention, each one of said input bitstreams is received, and frames of time slot data from said input bitstreams are temporarily stored in a set of memory means (31-34), each one of said memory means being used for storing frames of a respective bitstream of said input bitstreams. Furthermore, for each frame of each one of said output bitstreams and sequentially in accordance with the order that said time slot data are to be transmitted in the respective output frame, time slot data is selectively read from frames presently temporarily stored in said set of memory means and is then transmitted into allocated time slots of said output bitstreams.

    • A data streaming device (1), which transmits payload data to media devices (11) over a network (2), stores TV channel payload data flows DC1-6 from distributor (8) in memory portions MC1-6 (7) in order to allow "trick" play modes (eg. fast forward) without causing delays in the normal viewing mode. During reception of a payload data flow (eg. DC1 in fig. 3a), identification data groups (ie. full data frames IF1-IF7) are detected (4, fig. 2) and for each of these (eg. IF4 in fig. 3b) a corresponding control data portion (1051, fig. 5c) is created (6) and stored (7) before the next (1052, fig. 5c) is created. This allows the first control data portion, governing normal (1X, fig. 5c) or reverse (RW1-3) viewing modes, to be provided without delay while the second control portion, for fast forward modes (FW1-3) which cause more I-frames to be "skipped", follows later. The method also requires only one memory-read operation for each payload data subset and its related control data, and uses only "relative" locations to identify such subsets instead of a "global" reference such as a counter or transport flow number.
