SOLUTION: A dye donor ribbon 20 has a leading end part and a plurality of sprocket receiving holes are provided at the leading end part along the parallel side parts thereof so as to leave an interval. A pair of parallel guide rails 240a, 240b opposedly arranged so as to leave an interval extend to the gap between the taking-up spool 160 and the supply spool 210. The rails 240a, 240b form a passage 250a respectively and the dye donor ribbon is guided along this passage.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the operation by determining the maximum number of heat elements operable with maximum power of a power supply, introducing a disable data into an image data such that the maximum number is not exceeded and sizing an enable group thereby eliminating the need of structural modification or an output adapter. SOLUTION: Drain leads of an NAND gate 8 are connected entirely with a single enable conductor 30 transmitting a '1' switching signal from a microprocessor to the gate 8 during operation. A disable data stream 31 is multiplexed in an image data stream 15 such that any number of the imaginary enable groups of heating element 5 is formed from 1 through N thus sizing the enable group and operating the heat element. Prior to print operation, the microprocessor determines maximum output of a power supply by sequentially operating the largest heating elements 5 possible before a piezoelectric sensor 34 exhibits output voltage drop through a conductor 35 connected with the input of the microprocessor.

SOLUTION: The cartridge comprises a roll of a dye donor ribbon 30. A shield 60 is mounted at an end 40 of the ribbon 30. When the ribbon 30 forms the roll, the shield 60 encloses the ribbon 30, thereby protecting the ribbon 30 against its damage during handling of the roll. The ribbon roll 30 including the shield 60 can be placed on a supply spool. When the spool is rotated, the ribbon 30 is unrolled from a periphery of the spool. The shield 60 has a plurality of sprocket holes for engaging with a sprocket of a take-up spool. At the time of rotating the take-up spool, no 'jam' occurs at the ribbon 30, and the ribbon 30 is accurately wound on the take-up spool.

摘要： A thermal printhead having a plurality of resistive heat elements receives electrical current from a power supply. The current is directed to selected ones of a plurality of heat elements in response to a sequence of data bits corresponding to the image to be recorded. The number of selected heat elements is determined by the current to the printhead or by counting the number of data bits and a signal representative of the number of selected heat elements is produced. The voltage coupled to the printhead is adjusted responsive to the sensed number of selected heat elements to maintain a prescribed voltage across the selected heat elements that is substantially constant independent of the number of selected heat elements.
