    • A selective call receiver (100) comprises a battery powered receiver (104) for receiving and presenting a message, a battery having terminals for electrical coupling thereto, and a housing (208) enclosing the receiver (104) and the battery. The housing (208) has a first opening (206) for receiving the battery and at least one second opening (234) separate from the first opening (206) for securing a battery door (FIG. 4). The battery door (FIG. 4) provides access to the battery contained within the housing (208). The battery door (FIG. 4) comprises a hinged member (214) having a first end (238) coupled to the housing (208) for rotating between a closed position and an opened position, and a second end reduced to form a tongue (240). The hinged member (214) further includes a bottom surface (246) having an electrical contact (244) coupled thereto for electrically coupling the receiver (104) to the terminals of the battery and wherein the hinged member (214 ) rotates the electrical contact (244) pivotally away from the battery thereby breaking the electrical coupling therebetween. A movable member (212) coupled to and enclosing the hinged member (214) wherein the tongue (240) of the hinged member (214) is slidably coupled within a slot (250) of the movable member (212) for permitting the movable member (212) to slide along the hinged member (214) while the hinged member (214) remains stationary and coupled to the housing (208). The movable member (212) has a first end including at least one protrusion (228) for engaging to the housing (208) and a second end opposite to the first end has at least one strut (254, 256) for engaging with the at least one second opening (234) of the housing (208) for securing the movable member (212).

    • An electronic component, such as a speaker, is supported on the chassis of an electronic device, such as a small radio pager, by a resilient annular member which is latched to the chassis. The annular member has an inner surface for receiving a part of the component, such as the speaker pot, and a plurality of fingers extending from the member and inserted through an opening in the chassis with outwardly extending hook-like ends which engage the opposite side of the chassis. The member and fingers are flexible for mounting on the chassis, and are rendered more rigid when the component is inserted therein so that the fingers hold the member on the chassis. The annular member may include portions which are flexed when the component is placed therein to store energy which tends to move the component out of the member. When used for supporting a speaker, the member tends to move the speaker pot to hold the speaker edge against a grill which may be formed in the housing of the device. The component support is self-aligning and self-centering and facilitates assembly of the component on the chassis.

    • An improved housing assembly for housing miniaturized electrical or electronic apparatus, such as a radio receiver or monitor, is disclosed wherein a single piece housing is provided, open at the top for receiving an associated electrical chassis with self-contained battery compartment and a sound transducer. A control panel attached to the electrical chassis cooperates to overfit the open end of said housing to complete the overall assembly. The assemblage of the housing apparatus requires no screws, fasteners or special tools as the respective component parts effect a snap-fit with one another. A novel interlocking arrangement between chassis assembly and housing disguises the latching interfit therebetween, which nevertheless may be released by the insertion of a simple blade tool at the proper location. Complete shock mounting and protection from dust and dirt is effected by resilient gasket elements in cooperation with the housing and chassis assembly. A transparent lens cover is incorporated on a portion of the bottom panel to overlie an information placard referencing operational data but which, in addition, includes features which show if unauthorized access has been effected to the internal chassis assembly.
