One such device may include data processing circuitry (28) that compresses first video data using first processing parameters, decompresses second video data compressed by a second electronic device (12) using second processing parameters, measures a load on the data processing circuitry (28), and, when the load on the data processing circuitry (28) approaches a load that is expected to cause overloading, prevents such overloading by selectively either adjusting the first processing parameters or issuing a request to the second electronic device (12) to adjust the second processing parameters, or both adjusting the first processing parameters and issuing the request to the second electronic device (12), causing the load on the data processing circuitry (28) to decrease.

摘要： A method and apparatus for managing blocks of data in a data processing system, the data processing system including a host computer and data processing hardware, the host computer having a main memory that stores blocks of data to be processed by the data processing hardware, the data processing hardware including a local memory that locally stores a subset of the blocks of data to be processed by the data processing hardware. When a portion of one of the blocks of data is to be processed by the data processing hardware, a determination is made as to whether the block of data is in the local memory. When the block of data is in the local memory, the portion of the block of data to be processed is read from the local memory. When the block of data is not in the local memory, it is downloaded from the host computer main memory to the data processing hardware. The data processing hardware may generate an interrupt to the host computer with a request to download data.

摘要： An improved method of incorporating a high performance graphics device into a base graphics subsystem of a processor includes two pairs of interface chips. One pair of interface chips is used to transfer pixel data between a base graphics system and the high performance graphics device, while the second pair of interface chips is used to transfer commands between the graphics device and the base graphics system. One of the pair of interface chips that is used to transfer pixel data is coupled to a bus within the base graphics subsystem while the second one of the pair is coupled to the graphics device. With such an arrangement, a high speed interface allows for pixel data to be fed directly to the frame buffer of the graphics subsystem, enabling the windows that are rendered by two different graphics systems to share a frame buffer memory.
