    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas which efficiently purifies not only olefin hydrocarbons but also saturated hydrocarbons represented by methane. SOLUTION: A coat layer comprises an upstream coat layer 2 which contains Al 2 O 3 having pore volume of ≤0.6cc/g, is formed on the upstream part of an exhaust gas stream and carries Pd, and a downstream coat layer 3 which contains Al 2 O 3 having pore volume of ≥0.8cc/g, is formed on the downstream part of the exhaust gas stream and carries Pd. The upstream coat layer 2 has the high thermal conductivity and excellent temperature rising property by virtue of the dense structure thereof and, therefore, the hydrocarbons other than methane can be cleaned even in the low temperature zone. Since the downstream coat layer 3 has the excellent gas diffusibility by virtue of the large pore volume, the hydrocarbons having the large adsorptivity to Pd quickly diffuses, the contact probability between Pd and methane is enhanced and methane can be cleaned efficiently.
