    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous carbon material for a non-aqueous electric double layer capacitor which has high capacitance per volume of an electrode and low expansion of volume in charging, and a manufacturing method thereof and the non-aqueous electric double layer capacitor.
      SOLUTION: A metal simple substance or a compound of the metal simple substance is blended with a coal pitch or a petrol pitch and a blended result is carbonized, the metal simple substance or the compound of the metal simple substance is cleaned with a soluble solvent, and is alkali-activated to obtain the porous carbon material for a non-aqueous electric double layer capacitor. Preferably, a primary quinoline insoluble component of the coal pitch is not more than 2 mass%, the metal simple substance is Fe, Si, Co, Cr or Ni, and the compound of the metal simple substance is a compound of Fe, Si, Co, Cr or Ni. More preferably, the compound of the metal simple substance is ferrite.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonaceous material for the polarized electrode of an electric double-layer capacitor for obtaining high capacitance with a small amount of variation, and to provide a method for manufacturing the polarized electrode.
      SOLUTION: The electric double-layer capacitor polarized electrode is manufactured by using a carbonaceous material in which a raw material is for example activated with non-baked coke originating from coal or oil, in which the thermal coefficient of expansion measured by an artificial graphite electrode testing method is adjusted within 0.8-2 as the raw material. In the case of the non-baked coke originating from coal, raw coke of coal-based pitch coke is used in which CTE is controlled manufactured by a delayed coker method by using coal-based tar having a quinolin insoluble content of 0.1% or smaller, or the raw coke of coal-based pitch coke is selected for use for satisfying a desired CTE range.

      SOLUTION: The porous carbon material for an electric double layer capacitor polarizing electrode uses uncalcinated coke originated from carbon or petroleum whose thermal expansion factor that is measured by an artificial graphite electrode testing method is 2 or higher. The uncalcinated coke is such uncalcinated coke of pitch coke as manufactured by a delayed coking method. The uncalcinated coke is acquired by coking heavy oil originated from carbon or petroleum as it is or after blending it with resin. Otherwise, the uncalcinated coke is obtained by subjecting the heavy oil to dequinolinic insoluble content process in which carbon fine particles, being preheated, are dispersed.
