    • The invention relates to a flashing for use with siding panels possessing an interior and an exterior surface, and a perimeter surface having a predetermined sectional width, and includes a first, a second, and a third portion, and a first and a second non-perforated, generally planar transition portion, each portion having an interior and an exterior surface wherein (a) the portion continues to the first generally planar transition portion and forms a first angle there between; wherein (b) the first generally planar transition portion continues to the second portion and forms a second angle there between; wherein (c) the second portion continues to the second generally planar transition portion and forms a third angle there between; and wherein (d) the second generally planar transition portion continues to the third portion, which is substantially parallel to the first portion, and forms a fourth angle there between. The angle between the various portions can be modified to facilitate water migration away from a siding panel placed in contact therewith, and the transverse distance of the transition portions can be varied, preferably to approximately 50% of the siding sectional width.

    • A multi-ply paper web is formed by bringing a top ply liner into ply-bonding engagement with a base ply web (W.sub.B) traveling on a base ply forming wire (36). The top ply liner (W.sub.T) is formed between two co-running forming wires (10, 20) in a convex upwardly/concave downwardly curved, substantially horizontal forming zone. Dewatering in the forming zone is effected by applying sub-atmospheric air pressure solely beneath the lower surface of the top ply liner (W.sub.T) being formed. Water is removed from the upper surface of the top ply liner (W.sub.T) solely by wire tension, gravity and centrifugal force created by passing the co-running forming wires (10, 20) over the convex upwardly curved path of travel. This permits a greater concentration of pulp stock fines to remain in the upper surface of the top ply liner (W.sub.T) to effect greater ply-bonding affinity with the base ply (W.sub.B) when the two plies (W.sub.T, W.sub.B) are brought together and bonded.

    • A system and method are provided for review of a trainee being trained in simulation. The system has a computerized simulator displaying to the trainee a real-time out-the-window (OTW) scene of video made up of a series of images each rendered in real-time from stored scene data. A review system stores or displays a view of the OTW scene video as seen from a time-variable detected viewpoint of the trainee. Each frame of this video is independently rendered in a single pass from the scene data using a projection matrix that is derived from a detected eyepoint and line of sight of the trainee. A HUD display with imagery superimposed on the OTW view may advantageously combined with the perspective-distorted imagery of the review system. The video displayed or stored by the review system accurately records or displays the OTW scene as seen by the trainee.

    • A vehicle simulator having a projection system for projecting a generated scene and symbology onto a common viewing screen. Tracking apparatus is provided for providing position and/or angular orientation signals representative of the eye of a person viewing the projected scene and symbology. An image generation system is included for generating the scene and symbology for the projection system, such scene and symbology being generated as a function of the position and/or angular orientation signals provided by the tracking apparatus. Such symbology is representative of symbology produced by a head-up display. The image generation system generates the scene and symbology with characteristics which simulate vignetting and/or occulting effect characteristics of the head-up display. The OTW scene and symbology are projected onto a screen and are co-located while the image generator, base or data of the eye position of the user, produces the symbology to simulate the collimation, vignetting and occulting effects of the HUD optical type used in the vehicle that is simulated.

    • An off-axis backscreen visual display system with rotating backscreen and projector assembly. The system includes a full color projector for projecting the image beam, and a backscreen which redirects the image beam from the projector onto a collimating mirror. The mirror in turn reflects the beam toward the observer eye point. The backscreen and projector are mechanically integrated together to form an integrated assembly which is mounted for rotation about a pivot point. The collimating mirror is oversized relative to the nominal beam size so as to present mirror surface to the beam redirected by the backscreen through a range of rotation of the integrated assembly. An actuator system rotates the integrated assembly about the pivot point to obtain increase vertical field of view. The backscreen can alternatively be fixed in position, with only the projector assembly rotating. The projector can include electronic image positioning capabilities, so that the active area for the image is located in a lower projector area or in an upper projector area, to provide a virtual rotational capability.
