    • A method for communicating mailing preferences of a mail recipient including a messenger for use in connection with an unsolicited mailpiece received by a mail recipient. The messenger functions to communicate a mailing preference to the sender of the unsolicited mailpiece that the mail recipient desires some change regarding future unsolicited mail communications from the sender. The mailing preference may include an instruction to discontinue future mail communications from the sender. The messenger may be affixed in combination with the unsolicited mailpiece and re-introduced into the mail distribution system by the mail recipient. Further, the messenger may be mailed to and received by a mail service provider to act on behalf of the mail recipient for the purpose of communicating the mailing preference or instruction to the sender.

    • A method and system for producing a printed text. A system operates in accordance with the method to: receive a message signal created by an author and representative of the semantic content of a printed text; produce a text signal in response to the message signal; analyze the message signal to determine a non-semantic indicator of the author's state of mind; determine a non-semantic characteristic of the printed text as a function of the determined non-semantic indicator; and printing the printed text in response to the text signal and the determined characteristic. The message signal can be a voice signal. A physiological signal such as pulse rate or variations in the pace, volume, tremulation, or average wavelength of the author's speech can also be used to determine the author's state of mind. In another embodiment of the invention, a system operates to input a message signal; generate a text signal representative of the printed text; analyze the message signal to determine a non-semantic indicator of the author's state of mind; map a state of mind indicator vector comprising the determined non-semantic indicator into an actual state of mind vector; and determine a non-semantic characteristic of the printed text as a function of the actual state of mind vector; and to print the text in accordance with the text signal and the determined non-semantic characteristic.

    • A method for creating mailpieces from a single web of printed material. The web of printed material includes printed matter to be used on envelopes, and other printed matter to be used on mail content to be included in the envelopes. The content pages are rectangular in shape and may be oriented relative to the envelope sheets in a number of different configurations. In some configurations, two sets of content pages and/or envelope sheets can be printed across the width of the web. The method starts with cutting consecutive sections of the web into separated sheets. Some of the separated sheets are envelope sheets including envelope printed matter, and some of the sheets are mail content sheets including mail content printed matter. The method includes cutting variable sized sheets depending on whether a sheet is a mail content sheet, or an envelope sheet. The method further includes cutting variable sized envelope sheets depending on the size of the mailpieces. In a preferred embodiment, the web includes business return envelopes (BREs). The BRE sheets are transported to an envelope creation path and in the envelope creation path where the sheets are formed into envelopes. The envelope creation path is then merged back with a content processing path whereby finished BRE's are stacked with their respective accumulations of folded content sheets to form a complete content stack. BRE's are then enclosed with the content sheets by the enclosing envelope sheets.

    • A method for creating mailpieces from a single web of printed material. The web of printed material includes a continuous web having a width and a length, the length comprised of a series of attached sheets. The series of attached sheets is comprised of envelope sheets and content pages. The content pages are rectangular in shape and may be oriented relative to the envelope sheets in a number of different configurations. In some configurations, two sets of content pages and/or envelope sheets can be printed across the width of the web. The method starts with cutting consecutive attached sheets into separated sheets. The content pages belonging to a same mailpiece are accumulated together. The separated envelope sheet is transported, bypassing the accumulating and turning steps. The accumulated and turned content pages are then merged with the envelope sheet, and the envelope sheet is folded and closed around the accumulated content pages to form a finished enclosing envelope.

    • An apparatus for fabricating a multi-sheet mailpiece including a compiler, an axial deformation binding mechanism and a radial deformation binding mechanism which are in-line to pass sheet material along a linear feed path. The compiler includes a sheet feeding apparatus and registration device for accepting multiple individual sheets from the sheet feeding apparatus. The sheet feeding apparatus lays the sheet material onto a compiler tray of the registration device to form a multi-sheet stack having face sheets and content sheets disposed therebetween. The registration device further includes first and second registration gates for aligning edges of the face and content sheets, respectively, such that at least one edge of the content sheets are disposed inboard of an edge of the face sheets to define a peripheral edge. Furthermore, the first and second registration gates are positionable from a registration position to a release position as sheet material is laid upon the compiler tray. A controller controls the rate of sheet feed and the various operational positions, i.e., the release and registration positions, of the respective registration gates. Finally, the multi-sheet stack is fed to axial and radial deformation binding mechanisms to secure the content sheets between the face sheets of the multi-sheet stack to form an enclosure of the package.
