    • A container for electrolytic cells, and an electrolytic cell associated with such a container. The container includes at least two container half members attachable to each other in a mating configuration. At least one barrier member defines a cell containing region within the container. Furthermore, a cover member, in combination with an adjacent barrier member, defines a lead housing region. Electrolytic cells, such as stacks of conventional flat battery cells, have a portion positioned within the cell containing region, while the portion of the electrolytic cells having electrically exposed leads are entrapped in electrically conducting contact with each other and another electrical lead associated with the cover member, in the lead housing region. The electrical lead associated with the cover member has a portion which extends externally to the container, so as to enable electrical contact with an external device.

    • A battery apparatus comprising a casing, at least two stacked lithium ion cells a member for maximizing the utilization of the casing and a member for precluding inadvertent deformation of the casing. The casing includes a non-uniform inner periphery. Each of at least two stacked lithium ion cells is positioned within the casing. The utilization maximizing member maximizes the utilization of the inner periphery of the casing by facilitating the independent shaping of each of the at least two stacked lithium ion cells to confirm to the inner periphery. As a result, the shape of one cell does not limit or dictate the shape of any other cell. The deformation precluding member is associated with each of the at least two lithium ion cells, and, substantially precludes inadvertent deformation of the casing by the at least two lithium ion cells, during cell cycling and storage. The invention further includes a process for fabricating a battery apparatus.

    • Apparatus and method for folding a sheet material, preferably an electrode sheet, into a fan-fold orientation. A securement means secures a portion of the sheet material to a rotatable plate in a plane parallel to the rotatable plate. A rotatable releasable clamp secures at least a portion of the sheet in a first rotational position between the plate and clamp. A rotation means rotates the securement means, plate, and clamp so as to move the sheet from the first rotational position to a second rotational position, wherein, rotation from the first rotational position to the second rotational position forms a folded portion of the sheet over a portion of the clamp.
