摘要： A dialog window for use in a filtering process provides filtering criteria based upon a limited number of object properties. Each property has an associated criterion input comprising an operator input and a value input which together with the associated property specify a filtering criterion. The dialog window preferably includes a limited number of properties, such as two or three properties, for simplicity and ease of use. Each property further has a selector in the form of a check box by which the user selects the operant filter criteria. The dialog window additionally includes a count button by which the user may update a count display which indicates the number of objects which will be returned using the presently entered filtering criteria.

摘要： A heterogeneous database system is described which includes plural database systems, one of the database systems acting as an interface (i.e., system manager). The system manager performs functions which provide an application program with transparent access to the entire database system. The system manager includes a memory for storing (i) a matrix of functional capabilities of each of the plural databases, (ii) a catalog of functions that are supportable by various databases and (iii) and entry matrix for providing an interface function between a user and the system manager. A processor is present in the system manager; and is responsive to a user entry, via the entry matrix, with respect to a functional capability of one of the plural databases, to alter a matrix of functional capabilities pertaining to the database. The alteration is carried out in accordance with a corresponding functional capability entry in the catalog. If a user entry is received which refers to a database for which no entry exists in the matrix of functional capabilities, the system manager presents an entry matrix in a form which reflects default functional capabilities. Thereafter, the default capabilities may be altered by a system administrator to reflect the capabilities of the new database.

摘要： Provided are a method, system, and program for transferring data from a source storage unit, wherein storage units are configured within a storage system. A data transfer operation is processed to transfer data from source storage blocks in a source storage unit to corresponding target storage blocks in a target storage unit. For each source storage block, before transferring data from one source storage block to the corresponding target storage block, indication is made that the source storage block is in a locked state. Data in the source storage block in the locked state is not accessible to a host data request, and wherein data in storage blocks that are not in the locked state is accessible to a host data request while the data transfer operation is pending. Indication is further made that the source storage block is not in the locked state after transferring the data in the source storage block to the corresponding target storage block the data in the source storage block to the corresponding target storage block.
