摘要： A method and apparatus for sectorizing coverage of a cellular communications area includes providing a remote unit having microcell antenna units. Each microcell antenna unit is configured to cover a particular sector. The remote unit is connected to a sectorized base station unit which is connected to a mobile telecommunications switching office. Separate digitized streams representative of telephone signals received from the mobile telecommunications switching office are generated corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are multiplexed and transmitted to the remote unit. The remote unit demultiplexes the multiplexed digitized streams into the separate digitized streams corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are converted to RF signals for coverage of a particular sector by the corresponding microcell antenna unit. Separate digitized streams are separately generated for each microcell antenna unit representative of RF signals received at the microcell antenna unit for a particular sector. The separately generated digitized streams are multiplexed at the remote unit and transmitted to the sectorized base station unit. At the sectorized base station unit, the multiplexed digitized streams are demultiplexed into the separate digitized streams corresponding to microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are converted to RF signals for provision to the mobile telecommunications switching office. Diversity at the remote units is also provided.

The system includes filtering, framing, and multiplexing of multiple channels. The system also provides passive handoff and passive switching. The system may be deployed in two different stages.

The system includes a head end unit that receives RF signals in a first frequency range to be distributed to users in the structure. The head end unit is coupled to the power lines of the structure. RF signals are transmitted over the power lines in a second frequency range. The head end unit includes a frequency converter that translates RF signals between the first frequency range and the second frequency range. The system also includes a number of remote units. The remote units are coupled to the power lines and disposed throughout the structure to provide RF coverage within the structure. The remote units include frequency converters that convert signals between the first and second frequency ranges. Further, an antenna is coupled to each remote unit to transmit signals to and receive signals from the users in the first frequency range.

摘要： A microcellular communications network includes a plurality of base station units and corresponding antenna units. The base station units are housed in a common location. Each includes either conventional transmitters and receivers or all digital transmitter and receiver equipment, and interface circuitry to a mobile telecommunications switching office. The microcell traffic output is applied to a frame generator/multiplexer. The output of the frame generator/multiplexer is applied to a digitally modulated laser. The laser output is conveyed by fiber to a remote antenna unit, which demultiplexes the microcell traffic signal and applies it to a digital-to-analog converter. The output of the digital-to-analog converter is applied to a power amplifier, which in turn is connected to a main antenna. RF signals from the mobile units are received at both a main and a diversity antenna. The received signals are filtered, digitized, multiplexed together and transmitted over the optical fiber back to the base station. The strongest signal is selected for use.

摘要： A method of communicating a plurality of two-way inbound/outbound cellular telephone transmissions between a base station and a physically remote cell using a set of channels. At the base station, a plurality of outbound telephone transmissions, received from a network, are analog modulated onto respective ones of RF analog outbound channel carriers. The modulated analog channel carriers are combined to form a single RF analog outbound signal representing all of the outbound telephone transmissions in the set of channels. The analog outbound combined signal is subsequently digitized into a single stream of outbound digital samples and transmitted to the remote cell. At the remote cell, the stream of digital samples is converted back to the RF analog outbound combined signal and broadcasted directly to mobile units in the cell. Further, the remote cell receives a plurality of simultaneous inbound telephone transmissions from the mobile units as an RF analog inbound combined signal. The analog inbound combined signal is digitized into a single stream of inbound digital samples and transmitted to the base station. At the base station, the stream of inbound digital samples is converted into a single RF analog inbound signal, the inbound telephone transmissions are recovered from the single RF analog inbound signal, and delivered to the network.

The modulator is configured to adjust a carrier frequency and timing of the plurality of tones such that when any tones are transmitted from the first remote unit and at least one other remote unit, the orthogonality of the tones when received at the host unit is improved. Both control data and payload data are transmitted on a first tone of the plurality of tones.

摘要： Systems and methods for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing are provided. In one embodiment, a multi-carrier modem comprises: a receiver configured to receive a waveform comprising a plurality of spectrally overlapping carrier signals from at least two of a plurality of remote units, wherein the plurality of spectrally overlapping carrier signals are modulated using an inverse Fourier transform algorithm; a transmitter; a processor coupled to the transmitter, wherein the processor outputs data for transmission to the transmitter, wherein the processor applies an inverse Fourier transform algorithm to the data provided to the transmitter; a controller programmed to instruct the transmitter to transmit a predetermined identifier on at least one of the spectrally overlapping carrier signals, the predetermined identifier identifying to a first remote unit a range of the plurality of spectrally overlapping carrier signals for the first remote unit to receive control information.

摘要： The present invention is broadly directed to treatment of an addictive disease or disorder. In particular, the invention relates to inhibiting or reversing the biochemical and neurophysiological changes that correlate with behavioral changes of addictive diseases or disorders. The method of the invention comprises administering to a subject suspected of suffering from an addictive disease or disorder an amount of brain-derived factor (BDNF) or neurotrophin-4 (NT-4), or both, effective to reverse behavioral changes that are associated with the addictive disease or disorder. In a specific Example, administration of BDNF or NT-4 inhibits or reverses increased expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and glial ibrillary acidic protein in the ventral tegmental area of the brain, and inhibits or reverses increased levels of cyclic-AMP-dependent protein kinase activity in the nucleus accumbens.
