    • Describes a method of electrochemically converting amine hydrohalide, e.g., ethyleneamine hydrochloride, into free amine, e.g., free ethyleneamine. A three compartment electrolytic cell is provided having (1) a catholyte compartment containing a cathode assembly comprising a cathode and anion exchange membrane, (2) an anolyte compartment containing an anode assembly comprising an anode and a cation exchange membrane, and (3) an intermediate compartment separated from the catholyte and anolyte compartments by the anion and cation exchange membranes respectively. An aqueous solution of amine hydrohalide is charged to the catholyte compartment, while hydrogen halide solutions are charged to the intermediate and anolyte compartments. Direct current is passed through the electrolytic cell and an aqueous solution comprising free amine is removed from the catholyte compartment.

    • A load bearing assembly (300, 452) that includes at least one molded plastic panel (1) and/or at least one molded plastic panel assembly (3), a first support (303) and optionally a second support (306), is described. Each panel (1) of the load bearing assembly (300) includes a first external portion (17) and a second external portion (20), each having a plurality of reinforcing structures (49, 79) having sidewalls (52, 82) that define a plurality of external portion recesses (64, 98). Each support (303, 306) has a plurality of extensions (318, 339) that are received within the external portion recesses (64, 98) of the panel with which they are aligned. Receipt of the support extensions (318, 339) within the external portion recesses (64, 98) of the panel serves to attach the molded panel and the support(s) together, thereby forming the load bearing assembly (300). The invention also relates to a load bearing assembly (452) that includes a panel assembly (3) formed from a plurality of molded panels (1, 1a, 1b) having overlapping external (17, 20) and center (14) portions that interlockingly attach the panels together. Each panel assembly has a first free external portion (443) and a second free external portion (446), each having a plurality of external portion recesses (64, 98) into which are received the extensions (318, 339) of the respectively aligned supports (303, 306), thereby forming the load bearing assembly (452). The panel assemblies may be used to form at least a portion of a structure, such as a walkway, dock, wall, roof, shelf or chair.

    • The present invention provides a waterborne coating composition which includes a polymeric film-forming resin. The polymeric film-forming resin includes a dispersion of polymeric microparticles prepared by forming, in aqueous medium, a mixture of: (a) an unsaturated, substantially hydrophobic polyester component, and (b) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component. With various hydrophobic polyesters, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer component of the polymeric film-forming resin includes: (a) an acrylamide or methacrylamide with N-methylol or N-alkoxymethyl functionality, (b) an alpha-beta ethylenically unsaturated compound with carboxyl functionality, and (c) an alpha-beta ethylenically unsaturated compound with no additional reactive functionality. Such a waterborne coating composition has a low V.O.C., provides added stiffness, does not block, and can be applied in such a manner that it does not substantially mask the texture of the nonwoven fabrics and/or textiles over which it is applied. When the hydrophobic polyester is prepared with polycarboxylic acid and about 45 to 75 percent by weight 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol, and about 0 to 23 percent by weight 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol, various mixtures of ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s) can be used. The percents by weight are based on total weight of the substantially hydrophobic polyester mixtures of ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s). These are particularized into microparticles by high-stress techniques followed by polymerizing the polymerizable species to form the polymeric microparticles which are stably dispersed in the aqueous medium.
