    • An apparatus is described comprising an ingress port and a plurality of switch planes where each of the switch planes has a dedicated scheduler and each of the switch planes are communicatively coupled to the ingress port. The switch planes may further have at least one input control port and at least one output control port where each of the input control ports are coupled to each of the output control ports in a crossbar arrangement. The communicative coupling may further comprise one of the input control ports coupled to the ingress port. Furthermore, the ingress port may have at least one unicast queue which is dedicated to a specific egress port. The ingress port may also have a multicast queue. The dedicated scheduler may further comprise a pointer to determine priority between multicast and unicast traffic, a pointer to determine priority between contending input control ports having multicast traffic and/or a pointer for each of the output control ports to determine priority between contending input control ports having unicast traffic. The apparatus may also further comprise a plurality of ingress ports where each of the ingress ports are communicatively coupled to one of each of the input control ports.

    • A method for operating a router which combines virtual channels is disclosed, where both forward and reverse directed resource management cells are used to control transmission rate of a source computer. The merging router receives forward directed resource management cells from a plurality of upstream routers, where each forward directed resource management cell represents a virtual channel. The router: (1) replies to each upstream router with a reverse directed resource management cell; and (2) forwards to a downstream router a combined forward directed resource management cell, the combined forward directed resource management cell combining a plurality of virtual channels established between the router and the plurality of upstream routers.

    • A transaction for purchasable content is facilitated over an electronic network, wherein the purchasable content includes downloadable digital data. A first presence is maintained on the electronic network to which a consumer may connect. A first page is transmitted from the first presence to the consumer over the electronic network, such that the first page includes information concerning the purchasable content. A command is received from the consumer over the electronic network indicating that the consumer wishes the transaction for the purchasable content. The consumer is automatically linked to a second presence on the electronic network in response to the command such that the consumer may interact with the second presence over the electronic network to complete the transaction for the purchasable content.
