    • A safety needle device and positive flush mechanism for use with a vascular access port. In one embodiment, the combination needle assembly includes a needle, a body and a base, the body being collapsible to expunge fluid therefrom as the needle is withdrawn from a vascular access port. In another embodiment, the combination needle assembly includes a needle, a housing and a reservoir, the housing squeezing the reservoir to expunge fluid therefrom as the needle is withdrawn from the port. In another embodiment, the needle assembly includes a compression plate and balloon extension, the compression plate forcing fluid out of the balloon extension as the needle is withdrawn from the port. In all embodiments, the needle assembly is configured to provide a positive flush to overcome negative pressures in the vascular access port, while also providing a locking mechanism to prevent accidental needle sticks.

    • A reamer may be designed to engage a guide member, such as a guide wire, implanted in bone at any of a plurality of relative orientations such that the resulting resection of the bone does not depend on the relative orientation. The reamer may have a shaft that receives torque and a reaming head with a cavity into which a protruding portion of the guide wire is insertable. The cavity may have a generally conical shape capable of receiving the guide wire at a variety of relative orientations. The orientation of the reaming head is determined not by that of the guide wire, but by a stationary frame to which the reamer is coupled. The reamer may optionally have an offset assembly that causes the reaming head to rotate about an axis displaced from that of the shaft to reduce the size of the incision required to reaming head.

    • An inserter tool for coupling a spinal rod with an implant includes an outer shaft having a proximal end, a distal end and an elongated opening extending between the proximal and distal ends, a handle secured to the proximal end of the outer shaft, and an inner shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, the inner shaft being telescopically received within the elongated opening of the outer shaft and being adapted to move between the proximal and distal ends of the outer shaft. The tool includes a compressible clamping tip secured to the distal end of the inner shaft, the clamping tip including a first section secured to the distal end of the inner shaft, a flexible arm that extends from the first section, and an opening disposed between the first section and the flexible arm. A knob is coupled with the proximal end of the inner shaft, the knob being rotatable in a first direction for extending the clamping tip from the distal end of the outer shaft and in a second direction for retracting the clamping tip into the distal end of the outer shaft so as to compress the flexible arm of the clamping tip toward the first section of the clamping tip.
