    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrel polishing device and method with and by which only an outer peripheral surface of a workpiece to be polished can be polished by a prescribed amount without immersing the workpiece to be polished in a polishing medium.SOLUTION: The barrel polishing device includes: a workpiece to be polished 1; the polishing medium 2; a polishing-medium containing tank 3; and a workpiece-supporting part. The polishing-medium containing tank 3 has an inner circumferential surface in an internal space thereof, and a mechanism for rotation-driving the tank which rotates the polishing-medium containing tank 3 in a circumferential direction of the inner circumferential surface so that the polishing medium 2 is distributed over a whole of at least part of the inner circumferential surface, is further prepared.

    • PURPOSE: To construct a molecular-beam cell so that the atmosphere can be partitioned from vacuum, by making the position of the fore end part of a second molecular beam introducing pipe be transferable to a joining position with a first molecular beam introducing pipe and a position of separation therefrom in bellows. CONSTITUTION: The end part of a first molecular beam introducing pipe 41 communicating with a molecular beam emitting part 3 of a molecular-beam cell 1 is joined with a second molecular beam introducing pipe 42 communicating with a reservoir 8, at an introducing pipe joining part 13 provided at the end part of the latter pipe. A straight extension-contraction driving device 19 is fitted to a flange plate 10 of a vacuum vessel 9 and a movable body 191 of the device is coupled to a flange 15 of a holding vessel 14 through the intermediary of a support arm member 20. By making an operation to change a position of separation of the vacuum vessel 9 from the holding vessel 14 by the straight extension-contraction driving device 19, operations for joining and separating the first and second molecular beam introducing pipes 41 and 42 are conducted and thereby the position of the fore end part of the second molecular beam introducing pipe can be transferred to the joining position with the first molecular beam introducing pipe and the position of separation therefrom in bellows 16.
